Socks for the Soul started in 2011 with the simple idea of providing socks to the homeless. During the community dinner for Thanksgiving, the guests are able to choose through clothes that church members had brought for them. An older gentleman looked my way and said, "do you have any socks? No one ever donates socks" At that moment, Socks for the Soul was born. I promised him when I returned the
next year that I would have plenty for him and the community of St Augustine. In 2011, with the help of friends, family and co-workers, we collected close to 500 pairs of new socks for men, women and children. The response was overwhelming. The recipients were very pleased with something as simple as a new pair of socks. In 2012 I almost didn't collect socks because it is a lot of work at times. I then wondered if I went to serve the homeless if they would remember me from the year before and ask if I had socks. The thought of having to look them in the eyes and tell them, "not this year" just broke my heart. We collected in 2012 as well. Started a month earlier and collected more than double the year before. In the fall of 2013 my dear friend joined me in the effort to spread my network donating idea. She is now collecting from friends, family and co-workers in Columbus, OH. So excited about where this is going. In 2013 I am did it again but with great ambition. That year I doubled the year before and collected more than 2000 pair of socks. I started this page, Socks for the Soul, opened a paypal account for those far away that want to contribute and also I am reaching out to friends who are part of organizations that will allow me to speak about what I do and why.
2013 was a great year and I couldn't believe the love and support that went into it. Here we are in 2014 and I think this year is going to explode. I am working with 2 girl scout units and a few other groups. I think I can double it this year too. May be a big goal to hit but we are ready. I have an army of helpers that are willing to do anything to make this happen. WHOA... in 2014 we blew it out of the water.... almost doubled the year before. Total collected amount of 5176. Tons of support from Schools, churches, groups, friends, co workers and neighbors. completely overwhelmed.
2015 WAS HUGE with a total collection of 6557. this year another friend also joined in the collection efforts in their home town of Spokane, WA. Make sure you follow them at Socks for the Soul - Spokane. They are doing great things there.
2020 I have not updated this section in a while but we are still going... this year we will exceed 30,000 socks collected and this is the 10th year collecting. I couldnt do it without the help of all of you. I really appreciate all the continued support to help those in need. Total of socks collected and distributed from 2011-2019 is 20,868
