This would be fun for the Troop to try one night!
Explorer Scouts: The Great Crisp challenge
Last night’s session was a culinary masterpiece in chaos — our very own “Create a Crisp Flavour and Brand” challenge! Armed with 17 mysterious spices, 12 packets of Salt & Shake crisps, and 50plus combination possibilities. With questionable confidence, the Scouts set out to revolutionise the snack world.
The rules were simple:
Mix at least two spices (because we like to live dangerously).
Come up with a brand and logo.
Try not to create a biohazard.
That last one didn’t go so well.
Before we started, I gave one tiny piece of wisdom: “Less is more.” Unfortunately, that was heard as “More is… absolutely necessary.” Some Scouts went for subtlety. Others decided to invent atomic-level crisp warfare.
Among the many creative (and occasionally edible) inventions were:
Cheesy Garlic Bread – classy, comforting, and surprisingly believable.
Taste the Burn – aptly named, and I’m still recovering.
Masala Munch – a holiday to India in one bite.
Mistico – nobody’s quite sure what it was, but it had vibes.
Crispmas – a festive explosion of chocolate, cinnamon, and regret.
And then there was The Other One. The one so unholy, it cannot be named. Let’s just say… if evil had a flavour, it would taste like that.
Despite the madness (and minor spice-induced trauma), everyone took the task seriously — designing logos, branding, and even marketing pitches that Dragons’ Den would be proud of (or terrified by).
One team absolutely nailed it and took home the title of Crisp Champions 2025. Another team… well, they successfully destroyed my taste buds. Forever.
All in all, it was a brilliant evening — full of laughter, creativity, and flavours we’ll never forget (no matter how hard we try).
As for that chocolate-and-cinnamon “Crispmas” combo?
Let’s just say it was definitely something
