Yesterday the St. Amant Fire Dept rewarded its members and families with the 2013 Family Day. Cannot thank Jennifer Sonnier Hebert, Derek James LeBlanc, Joshua Wingerter, Troy Richardson, Shane Stuntz, and Gary Germany enough for all the planning and hard work that was put into the day. The Scavenger Hunt was amazing. Residents got free gas, the yards cleaned, meals delivered to them, their cars washed, and of course several business were blessed with the singing of the National Anthem in their business during rush hour time. And of course we were blessed with some fashion shows, that will be used 15 and 20 years from now as some great black male material. I cannot begin to thank the 60+ members and their families that spent the entire day enjoying sometime for them. Thanks to all the local business's who donated door prizes that were given out through out the day and 225 Inflatables for the space walk for all the children. Thank you Justin Debbie Mickelborough Pauler for that donation. As Volunteers that continue to give so much daily to the community on a daily basis, it was great to reward YOU for your service. Thanks Chief LeBlanc

St. Amant Fire Responds to Motor Home Explosion

St. Amant – The St. Amant & Sorrento Fire Departments responded to 10507 Savoy Rd. in the St. Amant community this evening for a motor home camper that exploded.

The call came in at 5:09 PM, with St. Amant Fire Chief James E. LeBlanc arriving on scene at 5:11 PM, to find the Motor Home fully involved with debris spread out across an open field as much 90 ft. from the camper. Several of the surrounding home were damaged by the explosion with several windows blown out, stated LeBlanc.

The home owner was checking for propane leaks on the motor home when it exploded. Witness in the area saw the explosion throw the home owner as much as 20 to 30 ft from the explosion site. The homeowner was transported to a local facility with moderate injuries.

Social Media sites quickly filled up with comments wondering what exploded. Homes in Ascension Parish as far away as 12 miles were shaken by the explosion, stated Chief LeBlanc.

St. Amant, Sorrento Fire Departments alone with Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and ground units from Acadian Ambulance responded to the call.

Twenty Seven Volunteer Firefighters with four apparatus responded to the call.

St. Amant Fire Department responds to Haz-Mat Call

St. Amant – The St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department alone with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Haz-Mat Team and Louisiana State Police responded to a gasoline tanker accident last night at the corner of Gold Place Rd. & Hwy. 431. The Emergency Responders were on scene for more than eight hours.

The tanker making a sharp turn off Gold Place Rd. onto Hwy 431 struck a light pole, puncturing two of its tanks with approximately 1000 gallons of gas in each tank. The tankers leaked gas into the ditches of St. Amant, until Emergency Responders were able to stop the leaks. Air Monitoring took place throughout the entire incident with no evacuations ordered, stated Chief LeBlanc.

Power had to be shut off to the St. Amant community for hours, due to gasoline possibly leaking into an electrical box that operated the red lights at Gold Place and Hwy 431, stated Chief Officer James E. LeBlanc.

I’m so proud of the Volunteer Firefighters in St. Amant that responded last night. The actions they took last night, reassures the community that we protect, that training surly pays off for Volunteers.

Along with the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office & Haz-Mat Team members responded, Louisiana State Police, Southland Fire & Safety Emergency Response Team, Acadian Ambulance, DOTD, DEQ, Ascension Parish Public Works, and OMI Environmental Services.

The St. Amant Department would like to thank Justice of the Peace John C. Hebert for the use of his personal tractor at the scene to help d**e off the gasoline rushing through the ditches of St. Amant. We would also like to thank Delaune’s Supermarket and Delaune’s Hardware for opening their business to take care of the Emergency Responders.

Special thanks to the following Volunteer Firefighters who responded last night to keep our community safe: James E. LeBlanc, Derek J. LeBlanc, Josh Wingerter, Mike Breaux, Justin Pauler, Shane Rojas, Donnie Hebert, Gary Germany, Bradley Norwood, Bronson Coupel, Jake Blanchard, Jennifer Hebert, Kim Poche, Brady Moran, Mytrail Whitehead, John C. St. Amant Community - Today the Gator Homecoming parade will roll through the St. Amant Community. The parade lines up at 5:30 PM and will roll out at 6:00 PM. This is a change from previous years, because we want to be able to let Parents pick up their children from the local day care centers. The parade will roll down Hwy 431 towards the 4-way. Turn left on hwy 429 towards the Pit. When we get to the Pit, we will turn left on George Lambert. Then left on Stringer Bridge back to the school. The pep-rally and bon fire will be at the school. Please spread the word, that way parents picking up children at the three day care centers on the route will know. Thanks again and Geaux Gators.
