Awareness is only the first step. What we do with that knowledge matters just as much.

Making informed decisions about your health can help support independence, confidence, and overall well-being as we age. Whether it is scheduling a routine check-up, asking questions about medications, staying socially connected, or learning about available community resources, small decisions made today can have a lasting impact tomorrow.

At A4TD, we see every day how access to information, support, and community connections can help older adults continue contributing their skills, experience, and leadership in meaningful ways through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

Taking an active role in your health today can help support a stronger, more independent tomorrow.

As we continue recognizing Older Americans Month, we encourage everyone to stay informed, ask questions, and make their health a priority.

Good health decisions begin with asking questions, staying informed, and knowing that your voice matters.

For many older adults, confidence plays an important role in maintaining overall health and independence. Whether it is understanding a medical recommendation, learning about available community resources, or making lifestyle changes, staying engaged in the decision-making process matters.

At A4TD, we see every day how confidence and purpose can support healthy aging. Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program ( SCSEP), older adults continue building skills, staying active in their communities, and maintaining meaningful social connections that contribute to overall well-being.

Awareness is not only about information. It is about having the confidence to use it.

The A4TD team was proud to participate in the 2026 Healthy Aging Expo hosted by the Eastern Area Agency on Aging on May 14 in Bangor, Maine.

Renee Charette and Nina Fearon represented A4TD and the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) at one of the region’s largest events focused on healthy aging and community resources for older adults. Throughout the day, the A4TD table welcomed strong interest from attendees, and several potential SCSEP participants were identified for follow-up.

The event also created valuable opportunities to strengthen partnerships across the Bangor region. Conversations took place with organizations including the University of Maine Center on Aging, Brewer Public Library, Bangor Humane Society, and our host agency partner Habitat for Humanity of Bangor.

A particularly important discussion took place with EAAA Executive Director Tabatha Caso regarding possible SCSEP training placement opportunities within rural access centers, as well as ways to help orient new EAAA Resource Specialists to A4TD services and supports.

Events like the Healthy Aging Expo help strengthen community connections and ensure that older adults are aware of the training, support, and employment pathways available through SCSEP.

Making informed decisions about your health becomes more important as we age. That does not mean navigating it alone. Knowing where to find reliable information, understanding available services, and asking the right questions can make a real difference in maintaining independence and quality of life.

Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), A4TD works with older adults every day who are not only building new job skills, but also reconnecting with community resources, support networks, and opportunities that help them stay active and informed.

Awareness is often the first step. Whether it is understanding available healthcare options, learning new technology, finding transportation resources, or building confidence in returning to the workforce, having access to the right information matters.

This Older Americans Month, we encourage older adults to stay curious, stay engaged, and continue making informed choices that support long-term wellbeing.

Healthy aging is about more than medical care. It is also about staying connected, maintaining purpose, and continuing to participate in the community.

Programs that encourage routine, participation, and community engagement can play an important role in helping older adults remain active and connected. Whether it is volunteering, learning new skills, or returning to the workforce, staying engaged can have a lasting impact on overall wellbeing and independence.

At Associates for Training and Development, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) helps older adults remain active through community service assignments, training, and workforce development opportunities that support both personal growth and community involvement.

As we continue recognizing Older Americans Month, this week’s message is simple: staying engaged matters.

Prevention is not always about major lifestyle changes. Often, it is the small routines that make the biggest difference over time. Regular checkups, staying active, keeping a consistent schedule, and remaining connected to the community all play an important role in healthy aging.

For many older adults, maintaining routine and purpose after retirement or a major life change can be difficult. That is one reason programs like the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) are so important. Community service assignments, training opportunities, and ongoing engagement help participants stay active, connected, and involved while building toward employment goals.

Healthy aging is not about slowing down. It is about continuing to move forward with support, structure, and opportunity.

Healthy aging is often discussed in big, abstract terms. In reality, it usually comes down to something much simpler: prevention and routine.

Regular movement. Staying socially connected. Keeping a schedule. Having somewhere to be and something meaningful to contribute.

That structure matters.

At A4TD, we see this every day through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). Participants are not sitting on the sidelines. They are active in their communities, maintaining routines, building confidence, and staying engaged through meaningful service and training opportunities.

Older Americans Month is a good reminder that prevention is not only about medical care. It is also about maintaining the habits, connections, and purpose that support long-term independence.

Throughout this week, we will be looking more closely at how routine, activity, and community engagement play a role in healthy aging.

Older Americans Month is not about slogans—it is about how people actually live.

This year’s theme, Champion Your Health, is a reminder that independence does not happen by chance. It is built through daily decisions, access to the right support, and the opportunity to stay active and engaged.

At A4TD, we see this play out every day through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

For many of our participants, health is not just about doctor’s visits. It is about having a reason to get up in the morning. It is about staying connected to others. It is about maintaining routine, purpose, and self-worth through meaningful community service.

Through SCSEP, older adults are:
• Staying active in structured, supportive environments
• Building social connections that reduce isolation
• Gaining confidence and stability through continued engagement
• Positioning themselves for employment and long-term independence

“Championing your health” is not complicated—but it does require opportunity. That is what this program provides.

This month, we recognize the role that access, structure, and purpose play in helping older adults maintain their health and independence.

Recently, A4TD was on the ground at the Bedford Job Fair in southern Pennsylvania, connecting directly with individuals interested in training and employment opportunities through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

Our team engaged with attendees, discussing qualifications and program fit, and collected several strong leads. Based on those conversations, we anticipate several new participants entering the program in the near future.

Events like this remain one of the most effective ways to reach individuals who can benefit from SCSEP—meeting them where they are, answering questions directly, and opening the door to meaningful workforce reentry.
