Curious about the visual design at THE DECADES? Under the art direction of Trish Denton, SAM worked with veteran set
designer Jeff Modereger and Vanish Works Experience Design to realize the exhibition designs for Centennials: The Gilded Age & The Disco Era in Vermont’s Rail City. Thank you to Vermont Arts Council and The City of Saint Albans for supporting this project. The designs draw on inspiration from 3 sources: 1) Archival material from our holdings curated by Eliza Callahan, 2) Trish’s visual reasearch from 19th century World’s Fair architectural design, 3) A 1964 IBM Exhibition Pavilion designed by Eames that is on display at - (which inspired the whole aesthetic when Trish saw it in Detroit). The mutable fixtures that Jeff fabricated are made of lightweight materials so that they can be easily stowed. As a team, we retrofitted the exhibition fixtures to install this immersive set for THE DECADES! Stay tuned for the date to be announced of when The Centennials Exhibition will open in late June. See you there! 🎥: Trish Denton

We are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the Centennials years! Did you know that 2026 is the semiquincentennial - the 250th? This year for THE DECADES: Season Launch Party, we chose the 1870’s and 1970’s as the decades to explore. Way to go on the costumes, everyone! 🥇The museum is officially open for the season! 🎊🍾Thank you to and for sponsoring the event. In addition to celebrating opening day, we previewed the CENTENNIALS exhibit, which will open in late June. Many thanks to Jeff Modereger for the beautiful sets, for the archival projections, and for the tunes, and photography for making the launch party memorable. People described the evening as utterly “heart-warming”. ☺️✨

We are filled with great sorrow to learn of the passing of beloved teacher, local historian, and author Jason Barney. Jason was a devout supporter of Saint Albans Museum, bringing countless students to the museum to learn about the local history of Saint Albans, Franklin County, and Northwest Vermont. As we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the USA in 2026, we encourage everyone to honor Jason by reading his book, "Northern Vermont in the Revolutionary War." He also released a brand new title, "Grand Hotels & Resorts of Northern Vermont". We have heard that Highgate Manor (featured on the cover of the above book) may is hosting a celebration of life and fundraiser for his family. UPDATE: A Celebration of Life Gathering for Jason Barney will be held Friday, May 29th from 3:00pm to 6:00 pm at The Highgate Manor. All who knew and were touched by Jason are invited to attend.

Indie Folk songwriter Henry Jamison played the Bliss Room on Friday! People journeyed from as far as 2 hours away to experience an intimate concert with this thought-provoking storyteller. The SAM Americana Sampler features touring musicians whose storytelling and artistry speak to a distinctly American experience. Sponsored by Mill River Brewing and Maquam Wines, we were pleased to present this intimate listening room experience on opening night of The Vermont Maple Festival. Thanks to everyone that came out! 🎸🎶🕯️🍷
