🚨 NEW BLOG POST ALERT 🚨

So… what really happened at the Ice Carousel & the Long Lake 100 last weekend?

Well… let’s just say:

It started like a survival episode ❄️
Turned into an engineering experiment 🔧
Briefly became a NASCAR-on-ice situation 🏁
And ended somewhere between “we meant to do that” and “don’t tell insurance”

You’ve seen the photos.
You’ve heard the rumors.
But the FULL story? Yeah… that’s a whole different ride.

From brutal winds and breaking chainsaws… to helicopters dropping in like it’s an action movie… to a carousel that decided it had a mind of its own…

👉 You’re gonna want to read this one all the way through.

Trust us—this wasn’t just an event… it was a chapter in Ice Busters history (the kind your buddies won’t believe unless you send them the link).

And remember—this wasn’t even a world record attempt… just a “casual” 250-foot patriotic spin that somehow turned into absolute chaos 😄

Then come back and tell us your favorite moment… because we KNOW you’ve got one.

And just when we thought Sunday had finally run out of surprises… the carousel had one last plot twist. 😳❄️

After the helicopters took off and things started to quiet down, a snowmobiler attempted to ride onto the carousel. Unfortunately, he tried to cross the edge at an angle, dropped a ski into the gap, and suddenly his sled was taking a very unplanned swim. For a second there, it looked like that snowmobile was about to become the world’s first ice-carousel submarine. 🌊😂

Luckily, Mike — our surveyor, rescue specialist, and now apparently part-time snowmobile lifeguard — reacted fast and helped stop the sled from disappearing into the icy water. With a group effort from Mike and the other snowmobilers who were there, they were able to pull the machine back out of the water and up onto the carousel.

Yes, we captured it on camera… because at this point, if we don’t have pictures, nobody would believe us.

The biggest takeaway: please be careful out on the frozen lake, especially anywhere near the carousel edge. What looks solid can get real exciting real fast, and this could have turned out a whole lot worse.

So even after the event was over, the Ice Carousel still had one more wild moment left in it. Sunday really said, “you thought we were done?” 😅

Check out the photos — and let it be a reminder that fun on the ice is great, but safety always comes first.

Just when we thought Sunday had settled down into a simple “go clean up what got left behind” kind of day… the Ice Carousel said, absolutely not. 😄❄️

After Buddy Collins and his crew wrapped up their laps around the carousel and stopped keeping Burnee on high alert, the action kept right on going. Before long, another group of friends — Kevin, Karl, and Gene — flew in with their helicopters, because apparently the only proper way to visit the Ice Carousel is either by snow machine, Sno-Cat… or from the sky. 🚁🔥

Kevin and Gene had already flown in on event day, so they were basically seasoned carousel commuters at that point. But Karl had just arrived from down south and clearly got the memo that if you’re going to make an entrance at the Ice Busters carousel, you might as well do it with rotor wash and style.

So even after the main event was over, the carousel still wasn’t done entertaining people. That’s kind of the thing with Ice Busters events — you think it’s winding down, and then suddenly helicopters start landing and the whole thing turns into another episode of Northern Maine: Frozen Edition.

Good thing we had the cameras rolling, because this was one more “you’d never believe it if we didn’t film it” kind of moment.

Check out the footage and photos — the event may have been over, but the carousel clearly still had a few surprise guests left on its schedule.

We headed back out to the Ice Carousel today to pick up and secure anything that got left behind… because apparently even world-class frozen chaos still requires cleanup. 😄❄️
But in true Ice Busters fashion, a simple “let’s go grab the leftover stuff” turned into another full-blown episode of Only in Northern Maine.
While we were out there, our friend Buddy Collins and his crew came rolling over and decided the best possible use of a giant ice carousel was to race around it — and especially around Burnee, who looked just a little fired up about the whole thing. 🔥😂 Let’s just say Burnee was not exactly giving off “calm and welcoming” energy.
Of course, we captured it all on video, because nobody would believe this stuff if we didn’t have proof. Giant spinning ice, fast machines, Burnee bringing the heat, and Buddy doing Buddy things — just another normal day for the Ice Busters.
Check out the video and let us know: would you take a lap around Burnee?

Yesterday at the Ice Carousel, we had a little bit of everything — helicopters in the sky, Sno-Cats on the ice, friends gathered around, and Mike out there making sure nobody left hungry by cooking hot dogs like a five-star winter chef. 🌭🚁❄️

Honestly, it felt less like a normal day on the lake and more like someone threw together a Northern Maine variety show: part extreme winter event, part backyard cookout, part “how is any of this actually real?” And somehow, it all worked perfectly.

One minute you’re looking up at helicopters flying overhead, the next you’re watching Sno-Cats cruising around the ice, and then suddenly you’ve got a hot dog in your hand and you’re laughing with friends in the middle of it all. That’s the magic of Ice Busters — big ideas, great people, and just enough chaos to make it memorable.

We snapped a bunch more photos from all the fun, and these are too good not to share. Take a look, tag your friends, and let us know what your favorite moment of the day was.

We came for the snowmobile races… and casually spun a giant chunk of Long Lake while we were at it. No big deal. 😎❄️

These photos captured one of those days that just felt so Northern Maine — horsepower on the track, horsepower on the ice, and a whole lot of people working together to pull off something pretty wild. While NorthStar Motorsports was bringing the speed and excitement of the races, the Ice Busters were over here doing what they do best: making the frozen lake look like an engineering experiment that somehow turned into a winter party.

What made the day even better was how well the cooperation between the Northern Maine Ice Busters and NorthStar Motorsports worked. Two groups, one frozen playground, and zero shortage of determination, creativity, and “yeah… this oughta work.” Somehow it all came together, and it made for an unforgettable day of racing, spinning, cheering, and probably a few frozen toes.

Safe to say this partnership was smoother than a snowmobile on fresh trail… well, smoother eventually. 😂

Check out the photos, tag the people you spot, and let us know which part of the day was your favorite!

Was she really there ? No matter whether you were there or not thank you for wishing us well. Next year will be a world record attempt. This year was only a 250ft carousel to celebrate the good ole USAs 250th Birthday.

Maine's winter traditions are second to none. ❄️🌲

Sending my best wishes to the volunteers in Sinclair for this weekend's World Record Ice Carousel event. Not only is this a feat of engineering, but it’s a wonderful boost for local tourism and a testament to the strength of the Northern Maine community.

Let’s get that record back! 🏆
