Marines and Associates,
As we step into this new year, I want to take a moment to wish each of you a Happy New Year and to express my deep gratitude for your service, dedication, and commitment.
A new year always brings a fresh page, but it also reminds us that our strength is built on what has already been written. Scripture tells us, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God goes with you” (Joshua 1:9). Those words resonate deeply with the values Marines live by faithfulness, perseverance, and standing firm even when the path ahead is uncertain. As we move forward, may we carry with us discipline without pride, courage without arrogance, and service rooted in purpose. Whether in uniform or in support roles, each of you plays a vital part in something greater than yourselves. May this year bring clarity, strength, protection, and peace to you and your families. Thank you for all that you do. Semper Fidelis, and may God bless you in the year ahead.
Brad Hodges
Detachment #902 Chaplain.

Happy 250th Birthday, United States Marine Corps

Born in Tun Tavern, a brotherhood made,
1775 steel in the heart, courage in the blade.
From salty decks and smoky bars,
Rose Devil Dogs who reached the stars.

Through Belleau Wood where legends grew,
They charged through hell as Marines do.
“Retreat?” No thought. “Fallback?” No way.
Just, “Send me in I came to stay.”
From Tripoli sands to Iwo’s heights,
Marines brought thunder to every fight.
Chesty smiled; the Corps pressed on,
Through blood-soaked paths at Khe Sanh.
In Fallujah’s streets, in frozen Chosin,
In battles where the odds weren’t chosen,
Still they stood locked, cocked, ready to rock,
No quit in a Devil Dog’s walk.

Boot camp beat the weakness out,
Until every recruit knew what Marine meant no doubt:
Honor. Courage. Commitment the creed.
A rifle in hand. The will to lead.

Dress blues sharp as a blade at night,
Warriors sworn to God, Country, Fight.
Whether grunts, winged, or salty fleet,
Every Marine earns that title elite.

So raise a glass, Ooh-Rah, Semper Fi
To the Corps that never says die.
250 years of the Few and the Proud,
Marching on strong, loud and unbowed.

For wherever the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor flies,
Liberty lives and tyranny dies.
Their story is etched in crimson and smoke
The hardest steel the Maker ever spoke.

So happy birthday, Marines stand tall, don’t yield.
Your blood built history battlefield to battlefield.
From Tun Tavern’s birth to tomorrow’s dawn,
Marines don’t pass we press on.

Ooh-Rah. Semper Fidelis.

"They (Women Marines) don't have a nickname, and they don't need one. They get their basic training in a Marine atmosphere, at a Marine Post. They inherit the traditions of the Marines. They are Marines."
(Lieutenant General Thomas Holcomb, USMC, 1943.)

Lieutenant General Thomas Holcomb made that statement in 1943 when women were first officially allowed to join the United States Marine Corps during World War II. At the time, there was some debate about whether women Marines should have a special nickname—similar to “WAVES” (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in the Navy or “WACs” (Women’s Army Corps) in the Army. Holcomb made it very clear: women Marines didn’t need a separate identity. They trained in Marine Corps standards, inherited the same traditions, and earned the same title—Marine.
