What a great In-Service our grandparents had today! Jessica Houthoofd from the Saginaw ISD visited us to talk about deescalating situations in the classroom. She shared a lot of great information with our grandparents. They’re now better equipped to start the new school year! Thanks Jessica!!!

Yesterday we gathered with the Foster Grandparent program for a picnic at Imerman Park. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer day! Thanks to all the grandparents that came out-it was a beautiful day!!

We are thrilled to welcome Rebecca Perez to the Foster Grandparent program. Her skills, experience, and fresh perspective are exactly what we need as we continue to grow the program in Saginaw, Bay and Midland counties.

Becky comes to us following a position with the Diocese of Saginaw as an office assistant in the Tribunal office. Prior to that she worked for the State of Michigan for the Civil Service Commission.

Becky is a Saginaw native. She is married to Rudy and has four children and nine grandchildren. She also has a fur baby named Paco.

Becky looks forward to getting to know the grandparents, teachers and students. She has already hit the ground running adapting to our computer and financial programs. She looks forward to finding ways to help grow the program. When asked why she wanted to work for the Foster Grandparent Program, she said, “it provides a great opportunity for seniors to stay active in the community while benefitting our local schools and students.”

Foster Grandparent Supervisors Beth Dow and Becky Perez joined other Foster Grandparent supervisors from across the state at a Strengths-Based Leadership workshop in Mt. Pleasant recently. The program was presented by the Sarah Opperman Leadership Institute at Central Michigan University. The training was topped off by great networking among the participants.
