The City of Saginaw is enhancing its treasures, which are supported by a strong cadre of volunteers. This work has helped the Hoyt Park experience be even better.

“The diamonds at Hoyt Park have been reshaped and groomed which is great for all the tournaments we have this summer. Go to the north side of the park, and you'll soon see a beautiful year round pavilion. If you're familiar with the history of the park, there used to be a pavilion in that area with a potbelly stove in the middle built into the hill and this one will replicate that iby also having a fireplace. It will be an absolutely fantastic space down there as the community uses the park for not just summer activities, but also year round for sledding and skating.”

Wow, Part Two. Thank you City of Saginaw, for keeping Ojibway Island at Celebration Square together, literally.
(from the Ojibway Island manager's Instagram account):

“Ojibway Island has a really bad erosion problem. 30 years ago, gabion baskets were put in on the west bank for bank stabilization and to mitigate erosion. But because of age, that system has failed and the bank will continue to erode unless we stop it. With that in mind, the city designated about $5.8 million of its ARPA funds to do a bank stabilization project. That is currently under design and we're working on getting the permits. There are a lot of those to get, from places like the Army Corps of Engineers and EGLE, because we’re working on a river. After we receive those, we can move through the bid process and start construction in early to midwinter. We're going to cut into the grade, dig everything back, and put heavy rock riprap in there to help stop the erosion and protect Ojibway Island.”
