Throughout the year, we’re shining a spotlight on the organizations that partner with our Employee Wellness Center to support the wellbeing of their employees!

And this month, we’re excited to recognize Jolt Credit Union, a partner whose people-first approach extends well beyond the walls of their workplace.

As a member-focused, community-minded credit union, Jolt is committed to helping people reach their goals, strengthen their financial wellbeing, and build better lives. That commitment extends beyond their members, too. Through community giving, volunteerism, education, and a whole lot of heart, Jolt continues to show up for the communities they call home.

At Child & Family Services, we believe that the people who spend their days helping others deserve support, too. Through our Employee Wellness Center, we’re proud to partner with Jolt in supporting the wellbeing of the people behind the work, creating space for connection, support, and the occasional reminder that taking care of yourself matters, too.

Because when your work is centered around helping people, having a place to turn for support is important.

This partnership is a reflection of shared values and a shared belief that stronger people help create stronger workplaces, stronger families, and stronger communities.

We’re grateful to have Jolt Credit Union as an Employee Wellness Center partner and proud to spotlight the people-focused work they’re doing every day. 💙

Because at Child & Family Services, we believe that Building Better Lives starts with supporting the people who help make our communities stronger.

Help us give a warm welcome to our newest CFS family member, Danielle “Dani” Vine!

Dani is joining our Sexual Assault Center as a part-time After-Hours Crisis Response Advocate, and we're so excited to have her on board!

Currently working toward her degree in Human Services, with plans to continue her education in Social Work, Dani brings years of caregiving experience and a genuine desire to support others through some of life's most difficult moments. What began as an internship opportunity with our Sexual Assault Center grew into something she knew she wanted to continue, and we're so glad it did!

One of the things we love about Dani is her heart for advocacy, both in her work and in her personal life. Through her own experiences navigating special education and support services for her son, she's learned how overwhelming it can feel to figure out where to start. Today, she enjoys sharing what she's learned with other parents, helping them feel more confident and less alone along the way.

When she's not working or studying, Dani loves spending time with her fiancé and two children, whether that means visiting water parks, bouncing around at indoor trampoline parks, or finding their next family adventure.

Dani is excited to be part of a team that helps people feel heard, supported, and a little less alone during vulnerable moments. We couldn't be happier to welcome someone whose compassion and commitment to helping others shine through in so many ways.

Welcome to the CFS family, Dani! We're so happy you're here and look forward to the difference you'll make in our community. 🤍

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives starts with people who show up with compassion, listen without judgment, and help others find their way forward.

Grief doesn't always look the way we expect it to.

Sometimes it looks like tears. Sometimes it looks like anger, exhaustion, or feeling completely numb. Sometimes it's struggling to concentrate, pulling away from people, or laughing at something funny and then feeling guilty because, for a moment, you forgot how much you're hurting.

Grief is deeply personal, and there's no single right way to experience it. It can come in waves, show up when you least expect it, and look different from one day to the next. You might feel okay one moment and overwhelmed the next. You might miss someone terribly while also finding moments of joy in your everyday life.

This month's Mental Health Matters focuses on grief, including some signs you might be experiencing it and gentle ways to care for yourself while navigating the loss. We hope these reminders offer a little comfort, a little understanding, and permission to give yourself the same patience you'd offer someone you love.

You don't have to rush your healing. You don't have to make sense of every feeling. You don't have to be strong every single day. And you certainly don't have to follow anyone else's timeline.

As we move through a season filled with traditions, celebrations, and memories, remember that it's okay if this time of year feels complicated. You can miss someone and still make new memories. You can feel sadness and joy in the same day. You can take things one moment at a time.

And if grief feels too heavy to carry alone, support is available. You don't need to wait until you're struggling to get through the day to reach out.

❤️ Call our Intake Department at (989) 790-7500 to learn more about our counseling services or schedule an appointment. You deserve support, too.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives means meeting people where they are, honoring the things they've been through, and reminding them they don't have to navigate life's hardest moments alone.

Spooky season comes with ghosts, goblins, and things that go bump in the night… but for some of us, the scariest thing lurking around the corner is a Monday morning. 👻

You know the feeling. The weekend is winding down, the to-do list is creeping into your thoughts, and suddenly your brain remembers approximately 47 things you need to do. Welcome to the Sunday Scaries. 🫨

Unfortunately, it's not just adults who feel it, either. Teens can feel overwhelmed thinking about school, friendships, and everything a new week might bring. And kids can have their own worries about school, routines, or being away from the people they love.

That's why this month's affirmations are all about reminding ourselves that we don't have to have everything figured out before a new week begins.

Whether you're an adult navigating a busy schedule, a teen facing a big test or social moment you're dreading, or a little one who needs extra reassurance for the week ahead, take a moment to find an affirmation that speaks to you. Save it, say it out loud, write it down, or share it with someone who might need the reminder.

Because sometimes, the best way to quiet those spooky thoughts is to remind ourselves of what's true: we can take things one day at a time, we are capable of handling hard things, and we don't have to be perfect to be doing just fine.

And if the Sunday Scaries start feeling more like everyday anxiety or become difficult to manage, you don't have to navigate those feelings alone. Our Intake Department can help you explore counseling options for yourself or your child.

📞 Call (989) 790-7500 to learn more or schedule an appointment.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives means reminding people of their strength, making space for their worries, and helping them feel supported through whatever the week brings. 💛

It's spooky season, which means it's time for our annual (even though it shouldn't have to be) reminder that COSTUMES ARE NOT CONSENT. 🎃👻

The costumes, the makeup, the flirting, the dancing, the late-night texts… none of it means someone is entitled to another person's body. Not even a little bit.

Consent means freely agreeing to participate in a specific activity. It must be clear, voluntary, informed, and ongoing. It can be changed or withdrawn at any time, and a person can say no for any reason. Silence, pressure, or a lack of resistance is not consent.

So whether someone is dressed as a vampire, a witch, a ghost, or anything in between, remember this: a costume is not an invitation, flirting is not permission, and consent is never something you have to guess at.

This spooky season, let's keep the tricks where they belong and make respect, boundaries, and consent part of every interaction. 🖤

If you or someone you care about has experienced sexual assault or needs support, our Sexual Assault Center is here for you. You don't have to navigate what happened alone, and you deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.

📞 Call our 24/7 confidential hotline at (989) 790-9118 to speak with an advocate.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives means knowing that costumes are for fun, consent is a must, and respect never goes out of style. 🎃

This Boss’s Day, we’re celebrating six incredible people who bring their own superpowers to Child & Family Services!

From big-picture thinking and keeping us on solid ground to championing our people, advocating for survivors, building community connections, and bringing a little extra sunshine to the everyday, each of these leaders brings something special to our mission.

But their greatest superpower? The heart they bring to the people behind the work. The encouragement, dedication, problem-solving, and care they give doesn't always come with a cape, but they make a difference in more ways than they may ever realize.

The work we do is meaningful because of the people who make it happen, and we’re grateful for the leadership, support, and heart these six bring to our Child & Family Services family.

Happy Boss’s Day to our very own superheroes! Thank you for helping us build better lives, together. 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️✨

Spooky season is the perfect excuse to have a little fun with your self-care. 👻🎃

This month’s Wellness Wednesday is all about giving some everyday self-care ideas a Halloween makeover, because taking care of yourself doesn't have to be serious all the time.

🕸️ Clear the cobwebs. Pick one small space that’s been driving you a little batty and give it some attention. Clean out a junk drawer, tackle that pile of clothes, or finally deal with the counter that has become a permanent landing spot for everyone's stuff.

💀 Sleep like the dead. Give your body and brain the rest they need. Try sticking to a consistent bedtime, putting your phone away a little earlier, or creating a cozy wind-down routine that makes you actually want to go to bed.

👻 Exorcise your guilt. Let go of something you've been carrying around because you feel like you should be doing it. Maybe the dishes can wait. Maybe you don't need to say yes to every request. Maybe “good enough” is good enough.

🧟 Don't ghost your ghouls. Reach out to someone you've been meaning to check on. Send the text. Make the call. Grab coffee. Invite someone over. A little connection can go a long way.

🦴 Get those bones moving. Take a crisp fall walk, try an exercise class, stretch while you're watching TV, or crank up the music and have a kitchen dance party. Bonus points for Monster Mash. 🕺

🧪 Mix up a little potion of your own. Try a new recipe, make your favorite fall meal, or throw some ingredients together and see what happens. Not every experiment has to be Pinterest-worthy. 😂

And if none of those sound appealing? That's okay, too. Self-care can also mean doing less, taking a break, getting outside for five minutes, reading a few pages, drinking your favorite Diet Coke in peace... whatever helps you feel a little more like yourself.

Pick one. Keep it simple. And remember, taking care of yourself doesn't have to wait until you're completely worn out.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling to keep up, or just need a little extra support, our Intake Department is here to help. Call (989) 790-7500 to learn more about our services or schedule an appointment.

This month, we channeled a classic Halloween horror villain and asked our team: “What’s your favorite scary movie?” 👻

Turns out, our team might have struggled if Ghostface himself had asked us that question, based on how few responses we got this month. 😂 But of the brave souls who did weigh in, most admitted they aren't really into scary movies, and Hocus Pocus was the clear favorite. (Which... tell 7-year-old me that Hocus Pocus isn't a scary movie. She'll have questions. 😂)

We love these little behind-the-scenes peeks because they give you a chance to get to know the people behind the work we do. Our staff spend their days supporting children, families, survivors, and our community, but they're also people with personalities, quirks, strong opinions, and apparently some very different definitions of what counts as “scary.” 👻

Thanks to everyone who played along this month! And to those who skipped the poll… we'll try to make our next question a little less terrifying. 😉

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives means supporting people through the hard stuff while still making a little room for fun along the way.

The scary stuff doesn't just exist during spooky season. 👻

Worries, big feelings, things your child avoids, or things they don't quite have the words for yet can all be important to bring into therapy.

Sharing what you're noticing at home gives your child's therapist more to work with and can help them build the skills your child needs to work through those uncomfortable feelings.

So this month, make room for the “boos.” The hard stuff belongs in therapy, too.

If your child could benefit from counseling support, our Intake Department is here to help.

📞 Call (989) 790-7500 to schedule an appointment or learn more about our counseling services.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives means giving children a safe place to work through the hard stuff, build new skills, and feel supported along the way.

You never really know what someone is carrying.

The person who showed up to work today. The friend who always checks on everyone else. The parent getting everyone where they need to go. The person who keeps saying, “I’m fine,” because they don't really know what else to say.

Mental health struggles don't always look the way we expect them to. Sometimes they look like exhaustion. Irritability. Pulling away. Going through the motions. Sometimes they look completely fine from the outside.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and it’s a reminder to make space for the conversations that can be hard to start.

Check in with someone. Listen without trying to fix everything. Give yourself permission to admit when things aren't feeling okay. And remember that asking for help isn't a sign that you've failed at handling things on your own. It's a sign that you're human.

If you're struggling, you don't have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out. You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what you need. You can simply start with, “I think I could use some support.”

We're here.

📞 Call our Intake Department at (989) 790-7500 to schedule an appointment or learn more about our counseling services.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives means creating space for people to be honest about how they're doing, reminding them they're not alone, and being there when they need a little help carrying what's heavy.
