Eight years ago my brother, unfortunately, made the decision to take his own life. The day after his death my family and I decided we wanted to have a benefit concert in Colton’s memory to celebrate his life, and right at two weeks after his passing we had the 1st Annual Colton McBride Sunday Funday Jam. The following year we started a charity golf tournament, The Colton McBride Sunday Funday Clas
sic, and eventually formed Colton McBride Memorial Inc., a Non-profit organization. The first three years all the proceeds from these events went to providing scholarship money to well a deserving student athletes at Boswell H.S. The last three years we’ve made the decision to start giving the proceeds to the Su***de Prevention Coalition of Tarrant County Loss Team, an organization to help prevent su***de and provide free counseling to survivors of su***de. Su***de is the Tenth highest cause of death in America but is often over looked or is too sensitive to talk about. I know alot of people have mixed reviews on the subject, I personally have always had the question of “Why”? I have yet to talk to someone about this without them saying they either know someone who took their own life or know someone who’s family member and/or close friend took their own life. We at Colton McBride Memorial Inc. are trying everything in our power to help provide su***de awareness to our local community and hopefully reaching out further than that in the near future. We want to try and prevent the tragedy that my family and friends had to endure so that it NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN. We know this is an uphill battle but we will do everything in our power to see that as many people as possible realize how powerful the human mind actually is. With everyone’s help we can bring this to the surface and fight su***de head on! On Sunday February 20th, we will have the 13th Annual Colton McBride Sunday Funday Jam at the Longhorn Saloon in the Fort Worth Stockyards. I hope to see everyone out there to help us raise money for our ongoing fight against Su***de. I would personally like to thank everyone who has participated in the past and extend my gratitude for any future participation.
