Justice Was Served, But the Pain Remains
Today, we stand in the shadow of justice. Three lives have been forever altered — one lost, two locked away. My little cousin Darius is gone, taken in a senseless act of violence that was never meant for him. The men who committed this crime didn’t even know him. They shot into a car, leaving an innocent soul as the unintended target. Darius’s life was stolen in an instant, but the ripple effect of that loss will be felt for generations.
Darius was more than just a cousin. He was a son, a brother, a friend, a mentor. His little sister Camille will never see him walk her down the aisle or watch him cheer her on at her graduation or volleyball games. Her children will never feel the warmth of their uncle's embrace, never hear his voice fill the room with laughter, or experience those spontaneous dance lessons he was known for.
This isn't just about Darius. It's about the countless lives forever altered, the dreams unfulfilled, and the endless ache in our hearts. And it’s also about the men who committed this crime, who will spend decades in prison, leaving voids in the lives of their own families.
So where do we go from here?
I don’t have all the answers. But I do know this: *change* won't come from outside our communities. It will take *us* — each of us — deciding that enough is enough. It will take prayer, it will take action, and it will take love. The Bible says, "If my people will humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land." Our land is hurting, our people are hurting, and we need healing. We need each other more than ever.
I believe in the power of change. I believe we can heal, if we come together with intention, with purpose, and with faith. Darius’s life — and the lives of those we love — deserve that kind of change.
So, let's not wait for the world to change. Let's make the change ourselves. Pray. Love. Act. Heal.
