For all of our family, friends and supporters of The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc., we thank you for all of your support! After 16 years of working to save skateboarder's lives and over 10,000 helmets given out, Barry and I have made the heart wrenching decision to close down the Foundation's Helmet For A Promise program. We are grateful to all of you and hope that all of you will honor Ian's memory by continuing to support helmet use when skateboarding. We have made many wonderful friends and awesome memories during our time in the skateboarding world! We carry Ian's memory with us forever and hope others will too. The website will remain so that the message Skate Smart...Wear A Helmet...Live To Skate Tomorrow! continues to be out there. The Ian Tilmann Foundation is thrilled that NCHD Race at Mt Jefferson will be an IDF sanctioned World Cup event, one of 6 worldwide, two in north America.
NORTH AMERICA
The NorAm tour expands to include Canada and Mexico! With a mixture of historical events and new courses to explore, the North American tour will have you feeling the golden ages once again. Expect to get pitted with some of the World’s best racers when you attend:

Gravity Fest WQS USA, August 7-9
Mt. Jefferson World Cup USA, August 14-16
Tour de Maryhill World Cup USA, September 4-6

The Foundations co-sponsors this race along with the NCDH Race crew, Appalachia State University and the State of North Carolina Parks. The Foundation has secured a Sponsor for the HELMET FOR A PROMISE for the event. Last year we placed 140 helmets (gone the first day!). J Raymond Construction (Orlando) is stepping up as Helmet Sponsor again this year. We are seeking additional local sponsors for the helmets with the generous help of J Raymond and others.

The Ian Tilmann Foundation (founded in memory of our son) mission is prevention of Skateboarding brain injury. Any Skater who signs a pledge to wear the helmet receives one free.. Helmet for a Promise has place over 10,800 helmets since 2005. We are all volunteer and operate from home (except when on the road for this race.

“HELMET FOR A PROMISE” COMES TO THE MT. JEFFERSON DOWNHILL SKATEBOARD RACES
MT. JEFFERSON STATE PARK NATURAL AREA
WEST JEFFERSON, NORTH CAROLINA

The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc, will bring the HELMET FOR A PROMISE program to the NCDH Downhill Longboard Races at Mt Jefferson, July 27-28, 2019. North Carolina Skateboarders are encouraged to attend the races and learn about the risk of head injuries from skateboarding. Skateboarders willing to sign a pledge to wear a helmet when they ride will receive a FREE top quality S-ONE skate helmet (CPSC). Over 100 helmets will be available on a “first come first served” basis starting at 11:00am at Turn #1 on the Mountain. Access the Mountain by the shuttles provided, parking at the base of the Mountain.

The Ian Tilmann Foundation is grateful for Helmet sponsorship from J Raymond Construction, providing funding for the Helmets. We thank Mr. Joe Shimel, Head Ranger, North Carolina State Parks for their enduring support that makes this great race possible. The Ian Tilmann Foundation’s mission is the prevention of brain injury resulting from skateboarding. The Foundation accomplishes its mission by giving FREE helmets to skaters who promise to wear it when skateboarding. Since January 2006, The Ian Tilmann Foundation has distributed over 10,500 FREE helmets throughout the nation. According to Marcy Tilmann, Foundation Director, “The Foundation actively promotes helmet use in hopes that others won’t suffer such a senseless and preventable tragedy as struck our family when Ian Tilmann died from traumatic brain injury in 2005 from a Skateboarding fall.” The Foundation’s “Helmet for a Promise” will be made available at this event. According to Ms. Tilmann, Foundation President and Founder, “We return for another great Downhill Longboard race at Mt Jefferson. The Helmet sponsor for this race is the J Raymond Construction and is greatly appreciated. Pro Skaters from across the Nation. We invite North Carolina’s Skateboarding community to join us for a great day of Downhill Longboard racing. We encourage the local community to attend this event and watch world class racing at its finest.”

The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc. is a Florida Non-Profit 501 (c)(3) public charity. The Foundation was created in memory of Ian Lee Tilmann with mission to prevent traumatic brain trauma from Skateboarding. The HELMET FOR A PROMISE program will have over 100 helmets at the event to give to Skaters who will sign a Promise to wear a helmet whenever they ride. Helmets are available to any Skater who attends this race. We encourage local Clermont Skaters to sign the Promise to SKATE SMART and receive a free helmet.

Great news! The Ian Tilmann Foundation Inc announces that J Raymond Construction will sponsor the Helmet for a Promise at the NCDH Race at Mt Jefferson, NC. There will be over 135 FREE helmets available for Skaters who promise to wear the helmet when they skate. Looking forward July...

Today is "Giving Tuesday"! The Ian Tilmann Foundation, Inc. needs your help. Please consider donating to help us save skateboarder's lives. The Ian Tilmann Foundation is a registered Public Charity 501(c)(3) created in memory of our son, Ian Lee Tilmann, who died from traumatic brain injuries incurred while skateboarding. We are an all volunteer charity with no paid staff. To date, The Ian Tilmann Foundation has provided approximately 10,000 free helmets to skateboarders nationwide and saved at least 40 lives! Again this year, we would like to help out Toys for Tots by providing helmets to go with donated skateboards for Christmas. The Ian Tilmann Foundation is thrilled to announce the NCDH Race at Mt. Jefferson has joined the 2018 IDF World Cup Tour.

Our message to Skate Smart and Wear a Helmet will be heard around the world.... Helmet for a Promise has placed over 250 helmets at this event series 3 years running. Our Helmet sponsors Appalachia State University, Benning Construction, S-ONE, and Triple 8 make it possible to serve local Skaters and Skaters from afar with a free helmet for a Promise to wear it when they Skateboard.

Credit goes to the event Organizers who shared the vision of a world class venue for Downhill racing. North Carolina State Parks, the Appalachia State University Longboard Club and the Ian Tilmann Foundation form the partnership hosting this race for 125 Skaters,1200+ attendance over 3 days. Community support is outstanding, Skaters and fans attending the race at Mt Jefferson will be welcomed with open arms, great food served with North Carolina charm. We look forward to taking Mt Jefferson to the next level.... one of 3 North American venues for the IDF 2018 World Cup Tour!

Helmet for a Promise will be at Kona Skate Park 40th anniversary skate celebration. Our faithful volunteer Will Fogel will lead the team to place 40 CPSC multi-impact helmets with the first 40 Skaters who take the pledge to receive a free helmet. We will stand with the Legends with our message to our Skate family, brothers and sisters all..... SKATE SMART... WEAR A HELMET... LIVE TO SKATE TOMORROW!.
