The Saddle River PBA extends our deepest condolences to Lieutenant Thomas Malanka Jr. and Patrolman Matthew Kirvin’s families, fellow officers, friends, and the entire Secaucus Police Department.

The Saddle River PBA stands shoulder to shoulder with the Secaucus Police Department during this incredibly difficult time. These tragic losses hit especially close to home for our Local, as one of our members had the privilege of being a close friend to both of these dedicated public servants.

Lieutenant Malanka and Patrolman Kirvin dedicated themselves to serving and protecting their community. Their loss is felt far beyond the Secaucus Police Department and will not be forgotten.

Please keep their families, friends, brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and the entire Secaucus community in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

We remember the brave police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and other first responders who ran toward danger while others ran away. Their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

We also remember the families who were forever changed that day, and the generations of first responders who have carried the lasting consequences of that sacrifice.

Twenty-five years later, the passage of time does not lessen the weight of that day or the debt we owe to those who gave everything.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

On behalf of the members of Saddle River PBA Local 348, we extend our sincere congratulations to Chief of Police Edward J. Riedel and Captain Paul Passaretti on their well-deserved promotions.

Both Chief Riedel and Captain Passaretti have demonstrated unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the Borough of Saddle River and its residents throughout their careers. We are confident that their experience and leadership will continue to strengthen our department and serve our community with distinction.

We look forward to working alongside both of you as we continue our shared mission of serving and protecting the residents of Saddle River.

On May 29th, we said farewell to a man who has been a mentor, leader, and role model to so many throughout his career. After 28 years of dedicated service to the Borough and 28 years as a member of PBA Local 348, Chief Jason Cosgriff officially retired. Chief Cosgriff's contributions to this department and this community have left a lasting impact and helped shape all of us. His unwavering dedication, leadership, and support will not be forgotten.

This morning at approximately 9am, members of Saddle River PBA Local 348, some of our Saddle River Dispatchers, members of the Saddle River Department of Public Works, and the 5th grade students from our very own Wandell School received the Flame of Hope from the Upper Saddle River Police Department and completed our 2.5 mile portion of the 2025 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Local 348 is extremely proud to have participated in such an amazing event. Today’s run raises a tremendous amount of awareness for the Special Olympics of NJ. Our local donated $1,900, which we are honored to have the ability to do.

Local 348 would just like to thank everybody that participated in the run. We would also like to thank our DPW for helping support and set up today.

Celebrating dedication and leadership at yesterday's promotional ceremony. Congratulations to our two newly promoted Lieutenants and four Sergeants—your hard work and commitment inspire us all. Here's to continued growth and excellence in service to the Saddle River community! We also swore in two new Saddle River police officers!

This Saturday, Saddle River PBA Local 348 members, alongside the Saddle River Fire Dept, Bergen County Sheriff’s Dept, and many amazing volunteers assisted with the 14th Annual Susan Zabransky Hughes Memorial 5k Run/Walk! The weather wasn’t the best but the runners/walkers that participated made it one of the most memorable events ever! It was so good to see everybody come out, we can’t wait for next year’s race!

On Sunday April 13th, members of Saddle River Local 348 visited Yankee Stadium to watch the New York Yankees play the San Francisco Giants. Members of Local 217 and the DEA also joined us. We want to extend our thanks to MyLimo limousine service for their extremely generous donation and the safe transportation to and from the event. Their driver was very professional and their shuttle was clean. We also want to extend our thanks to the Yankees organization for the hospitality at the event.

Last day to donate new / unwrapped toys is tomorrow Wednesday the 18th! Find a donation box in our police headquarters lobby or in Wandell School!!!

Every holiday season, Saddle River PBA Local 348 participates in the PBA Toy Drive where the Santa Response Team collects donated unwrapped toys for children. Stop in to our police department lobby to donate toys by December 18th!!!!
