Attention Evesham Township Residents:

Evesham Township has announced plans to establish a bow hunt for deer on several township‑owned properties, including
Black Run Preserve
Savich
ISGC (for Evesham employees only).
New Road Fields
Beagle Club
Evans Mill Pond
Koppenhouer Tract

A public hearing on the proposed ordinance
will be held:

Date: Wednesday July 8, 2026
Time:7:00 p.m.
Location: Courtroom of the Evesham Township Municipal Complex, 984 Tuckerton Road.
Marlton,NJ 08053

At the June 10th meeting, residents raised concerns about safety, hunter ethics, park access,
and the length of the proposed season.

Several noted that hunting does not reduce deer populations, does not decrease vehicle collisions, and that bow hunting has a high wounding rate.

Fertility control and other nonlethal approaches were also mentioned, with many residents urging the Township to consider humane alternatives.

Residents should be aware that no baseline population data, measurable goals,
or scientific benchmarks have been publicly presented to justify this program.

Research has shown that hunting is not an effective deer‑management strategy.
It has NOT been demonstrated to reduce
vehicle collisions, and it is known to stimulate reproduction and disperse deer into
surrounding neighborhoods.

Bow hunting has a wounding
rate exceeding 50%, leaving many animals unrecovered or dying on private property.

Deer are not responsible for Lyme disease, according to the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies; Lyme prevalence is consistently correlated with declines in red fox populations,
not deer numbers.

Science‑based, nonlethal deer‑management methods are available.

The Animal Protection League of New Jersey (APLNJ) has offered to present humane and
effective alternatives to township officials.

Please attend the July 8 hearing and contact the
Mayor and Township Council…urge them to reconsider the proposed deer hunt and allow
APLNJ to present nonlethal management
options by Doris Lin,
who holds a B.S. in Applied Biological Sciences from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and a J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center.

Councilwoman Dr. Krystal Hunter:

Councilman Joseph Fisicaro, Jr.
[email protected]

Councilman Christian Smith:

Main number: 856-983-2900

APLNJ was contacted by Evesham Township residents seeking our presentation.
Tell these officials to cancel any proposed plans of
a deer hunt.

A wounded deer wandered onto private
property in Saddle River to die, leaving
the homeowner traumatized. This
reflects a broader pattern: more than 200
police reports show local officers
assisting hunters in locating deer on
private land at taxpayer expense

Please be voice for our voiceless deer!
