On International FLAT Day, I celebrate everyone advocating for themselves and for others. Your body, your voice, and your choices deserve respect. Today and every day.
When Bob spoke at TEDx in Munich, friends we’d met in Berlin joined us with a few friends of their own, including these three amazing women. We spent days laughing, exploring, and getting to know one another. But this photograph holds a special place in my heart.
When I was facing a mastectomy, going flat was never discussed. I didn’t know it was an option. Would I have chosen it? I can’t answer that today. But I wish I had known it was a choice.
These women had chosen to go flat and had walked the streets of Berlin shirtless, with strength and pride in their bodies. Meeting them meant so much to Bob and I. Here he stands with them in his tutu, showing his support.
