CTG's visit to Keep Going Sis (KGS) reminded us why intentional mentorship matters. KGS is a community-based organization committed to empowering women and girls of color through programs that address the root causes of academic and personal setbacks — from low self-confidence to chronic absenteeism, to lack of access to resources.
Through their Confidence to Success program, participants receive structured mentorship, mental health support, and skill building workshops that help them grow academically, emotionally, and personally.
During our visit, Closing the Gap saw these tools in action. Mentors shared real stories about overcoming stress and finding balance. Participants engaged in thoughtful discussions and activities that encouraged self reflection and emotional expression. Younger girls even used creative art prompts to explore their feelings in a safe, supportive environment.
KGS is more than motivation. It’s a community that inspires confidence, nurtures resilience, and equips girls and women of color to thrive. CTG is honored to support this powerful work.

What a season for Team 3257! From early competitions to the Northern California State Championships, these students pushed themselves harder than ever — and delivered the strongest performance of any previous team in 17 years.
They became the 3rd seeded team, and captain of the 3rd seed alliance, and battled all the way to the finals. Their hard work earned them a place at the State Championships, where they competed with heart, skill, and determination.
Along the way, they learned powerful lessons:
• The work is never done — excellence requires constant investment.
• Success brings pride, and setbacks bring humility.
• Growth happens when a team trusts each other and keeps moving forward.
Closing the Gap is so proud of their journey and the character they showed every step of the way. To our donors thank you for investing in young people. Your belief in them creates opportunities that last long after the competitions end.

We had the joy of visiting Keep Going Sis (KGS) — a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and girls of color through transformative education, mentorship, and leadership development. From the moment we arrived, the room was filled with warmth, openness, and genuine connection.

KGS’s flagship program, Confidence to Success, is designed to build self-esteem, academic resilience, and future readiness for girls of color facing systemic barriers. During our visit, we saw this mission in action. Mentors didn’t just offer advice — they helped participants understand themselves, find balance, and navigate stress with confidence and clarity.

The interactive activities brought everyone into the conversation. Girls and women shared openly, reflected deeply, and supported one another in ways that felt safe, uplifting, and inspiring.

Closing the Gap is proud to support a community that is creating real pathways to confidence, healing, and success.

Team 3257 didn’t just build a robot this season — they built resilience, discipline, and a mindset that will carry them far beyond high school. One of the core lessons they learned: the robot is never finished. There’s always room to improve, refine, and push further.

Between Half Moon Bay and Sacramento, the team put in serious work — and it showed. They became the 3rd seeded team, captained their alliance, and fought their way all the way to the finals, earning a spot at the Northern California State Championships — the highest level of competition outside Worlds.
Even when they didn’t qualify for Worlds, they walked away with something just as valuable: humility, pride in how far they’ve come, and a clear understanding that growth never stops.

Closing the Gap is incredibly proud of their grit, teamwork, and the life lessons they’re carrying forward.

Thank you to our donors for helping make this journey possible.
