CNPS, the California Native Plant Society, is a statewide non-profit organization of amateurs and professionals. Our goals are to increase understanding of California's native flora and to preserve this rich natural heritage for future generations. The Yerba Buena Chapter encompasses San Francisco and northern San Mateo Counties and is named for the tiny fragrant mint Satureja douglasii found in t

his area. Chapter Activities are as diverse as our membership and range from conservation and habitat restoration to native plant gardening and photography. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to attend any of our events .

🌱Another terrific collab going strong! CNPS-YB-donated plants are in the ground at Commodore Sloat School, thanks to the intrepid 💚Raphael Hitzke, Climate Corps Education Outside Fellow.💚

Raphael planted toyon, coffee berry, and redstem dogwood, safely surrounded by gopher baskets.

Meanwhile, the 💫fourth-graders💫planted yarrow, bee plant, phacelia, and gum plant, all nestled happily among other native ribes currant, sages, and California buckwheat. 🪶Birds and 🦋 are going to feast magnificently this spring!

Stay tuned for more pics of our fabulous collabs throughout San Francisco!

💦Please help us welcome Erica Gies, author of Water Always Wins: Thriving in an Age of Drought and Deluge!

Floods and droughts are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change, often prompting calls for higher levees, bigger drains, and longer aqueducts. However, this engineered infrastructure—an worsen water-related disasters.

The Slow Water movement takes a different approach, asking: What does water want? Inspired by natural systems—geology, microbes, beavers, ancient cultures, and modern science—practitioners collaborate with nature to make space for water within human habitats, fostering resilience.

Many thanks to the twelve intrepid volunteers who joined the oxalis-pulling festivities in the Sunset Biodiversity Corridor last Saturday! If you know, you know: oxalis is a monster—a beautiful one, but a menace to nearly everything else. Gratitude to all who showed up for helping native species survive and thrive!
