Health Education Council The mission of the Health Education Council is to cultivate health and well-being in under-served communities by leveraging the power of collaboration.

For the past 30 years, the Health Education Council has focused primarily on:

• eliminating preventable causes of death resulting from the use of tobacco, poor nutrition, and lack of physical activity

• operating public health programs nationwide to meet the needs of diverse, underserved communities

• working proactively and collaboratively to ensure individuals are empowered to live a healthy life;

• representing diverse staff, community partners and stakeholders to better serve communities who otherwise do not have a voice for care, or access to healthy environments

Creating more pathways to opportunity starts with working together.

Yesterday, our Workforce Development Advisory Board recently met at SMUD with partners from Sac State, Los Rios, Greater Sacramento Urban League, Building Careers Foundation, and more to continue critical conversations and shares resources, ideas, and solutions to breaking down barriers to employment across our region.

We’re bringing people and organizations to the table, building stronger partnerships, and working together to create more pathways to meaningful career opportunities.

🎉 35 years of collective impact!

Join us Thursday, October 29, from 4–7 p.m. at Lakeside at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course for a ticketed event to celebrate 35 years of advancing health equity across the Sacramento region and the incredible partners who have helped make it possible. Come celebrate 35 years of partnership, progress and impact with us!

Today, we’re excited to share the final two honorees:
- Wellness Education Impact Award - Kaiser Permanente
- Strategic Partnership Award - Gordon Fowler, 3fold Communications

They join the City of Roseville, Invest Health, Consulate General of Mexico, Sacramento, and Center for Reducing Health Disparities, UC Davis Health, Golden 1 Credit Unioon, Mosaic West Sacramento, and Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen as Impact Award honorees.

That is the work the Health Education Council has been advancing across our region for decades.

At the inaugural Sacramento Hispanic Economic Impact Awards, HEC received the Puente de Opportunity Award - recognizing an organization that is closing gaps and creating meaningful pathways to advancement.

HEC’s work demonstrates how health, workforce development, financial stability, education, and economic mobility are deeply connected. From reaching thousands of residents through health education and preventive services to connecting job seekers with employers, providing financial education, and supporting entrepreneurs, HEC has built trusted bridges between communities and opportunity.

The impact is measurable – but what makes the work powerful is the trust behind it.

When people have access to information, resources, employment, and support, they are better positioned to participate fully in our economy and build stronger futures for their families.

🎨 Lots of creativity and new connections!

We had a great time hosting Pintando con un propósito, a Spanish-language painting class. Participants came together to get creative, try something new, share some laughs, and connect with one another. What started with a blank canvas turned into a fun space to build friendships, share experiences, and enjoy time together.

🧵✂️ A lot of sewing and creativity, and plenty of new connections!

We had so much fun hosting our Spanish-language sewing class, where more than 20 participants came together for every session to learn, create, laugh, and connect. What started with a needle and thread became a space for building new friendships, strengthening existing ones, and creating a network of support.

And we’ve got to give a big shoutout to our facilitator, Mary! Mary previously completed our Peers Helping Peers program, and now she’s sharing her skills with others; a true full circle story!

More than 30 neighbors joined us at Elkhorn Park in West Sacramento this morning for another great Walk With Friends (WWF) group. We got our steps in, caught up with friends, met new faces, and distributed fresh produce.
