Story of Clinica Tepati

Clínica Tepati se estableció en 1974, impulsada por la pasión y dedicación de un grupo de estudiantes de UC Davis y profesores de la escuela de medicina. . Nuestros fundadores quiseron abogar y luchar para resolver problemas a largo plazo en el sistema de salud y integrar atención primaría al curriculum de medicina, la cual usualmente esta excluida. Establecieron una misión en tres partes: servicios de salud, educación y abogacía orientada al deseo de servir al segmento vulnerable de la comunidad Latina. Influenciada por el Movimiento Chicano en los años 70 y con el apoyo de miembros de la comunidad y el Departamento de Medicina Familiar y Comunitaria de UC Davis, el proyecto dio origen a Clínica Tepati. "Tepatli", la palabra náhuatl para "sanador", fue elegida como el símbolo para incorporar la identidad cultural con un deseo genuino de servir.

Clínica Tepati was established in 1974, driven by the passion and dedication of a group of UC Davis students and faculty from the medical school. Our founders set out to address serious long-term issues in the healthcare delivery system and to integrate primary care involvement that is usually excluded in the traditional medical curriculum. They established a three-part mission of health services, education, and advocacy geared towards their desire to serve the vulnerable segment of the Latino community as part of the growing Chicano Movement in the 70s. With the support of community members and the UC Davis Department of Family and Community Medicine, the project gave rise to Clínica Tepati. “Tepatli,” the Nahuatl word for “healer,” was chosen as the symbol for incorporating cultural identity with a genuine desire to serve.
