We are so grateful to have been featured on with a segment on AAPI Month! Thank you to for spending the evening with us to learn more about the Hawaiian culture we hold so closely. We were able to share more about our lineage, personal reasons for being a part of the hālau, and even taught Sierra a fun mele!

What a beautiful night shared with our Kūhai Hālau ‘ohana, learning directly from our source, Lehua Hewett.

He made the long huaka’i from Japan to embark on a tour of California, offering several days of hula workshops with haumāna from Santa Cruz to San Ramon to Sacramento. We are so humbled for the opportunity to receive the ‘ike that was generously shared with all of us last night.

The mele, He Aloha Waiau, tells of the beautiful goddess of the sacred lake within the summit of Mauna Kea that shares her name. Water is life - we were reminded of how it provides nourishment for all living things. When it takes the form of clouds, it offers protection & tranquility for those dwelling above & below.

Mahalo for a memorable night and safe travels back to Japan, Lehua! We look forward to joining you on O’ahu this October.

May 18th is Kawaikapuokalani Hewett Day in Hawai’i. Help us in wishing him the best for many, many years to come!!

Preparing to welcome a very special guest to Sacramento this week: will be leading a hula workshop for many of our haumāna!

We are humbled for the opportunity to learn directly from the master Kumu Hula who has been leading our Kumu Kaponookalani through her continued journey.

What a beautiful night for a ballgame - and lots of hula! The invited our hālau to take part in the AANHPI Night celebration by sharing many of our favorite kahiko and ‘auana with guests as they arrived at .

Plus, a handful of our brave keiki got to take to the field in the 4th inning to perform Eia Makou (with a little support from their hula aunties & mamas)!

Mahalo to the RiverCats for a fun evening!
