California Stage Theater Company

California Stage Theater Company California Stage is a non-profit partnered Theatre Company dedicated to encouraging arts created by C

During the past 14 years, under the direction of Ray Tatar (MA 1970 Directing, UC Berkeley) our small company has produced 85 plays and some musicals, dozens of staged readings, and school tours. We have added two new theater spaces which now serve a resident coalition of four other theater companies, providing a thriving theater center for our city. California Stage Company reflects a California

state of mind when it chooses its work. Our vision informs our choices through our literary, social activist, multicultural points of view. We believe that our work sets us apart from most other local theaters in that we strive to “present high quality work that explores issues of importance to Californians”. If we do a revival, it must have topical significance and or present an artistic challenge to our artists. We have seen our work continuously attract growing audiences who expect to be challenged and enriched. Our 501c3 Non-profit partner for arts education and production is Matrix Arts EIN # 942569497

Presenting a hilarious political comedy in Midtown Sacramento!
Former Lt. Governor Ned Newley doesn’t even want to be governor. He’s terrified of public speaking, and his poll numbers are impressively bad. To his ever-supportive Chief of Staff Dave, Ned seems destined to fail. But political consultant Arthur Vance sees things differently: Ned might be the worst candidate to ever run for office. And maybe the public is looking for… the worst candidate to ever run for office.

Add to the office mix Rachel the nosy reporter, Louise the temp who has confidence but no skills, and the cameraman just doing his job, and you have a timely and hilarious comedy that skewers politics and celebrates democracy!

Performances are September 12 through October 5, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm and Sundays at 2 pm at California Stage Theatre, 2509 R Street (look for the red door).

Tickets are $22 and can be purchased online or at the box office 30 minutes before show time. "The Outsider" is directed by Linda and Scott Taylor. Street parking is available. Concessions include beverages, cookies and brownies.

SYNOPSIS:
It is 1969, and England is conquering the world with its music and fashions. Yet Eleanor Rigby, the dutiful daughter of a solemn vicar, appears stuck in the Victorian era in which she was born. Yet as she reflects upon her long life and two world wars, it is evident that Eleanor is anything but a disappointed spinster, and now, thanks to a song which coincidentally bears her name, Eleanor is about to make her lifelong dream come true.

PLAYWRIGHT BIOGRAPHY:
Michael Easterling and his wife Elizabeth are the proprietors of 5-String Farm, located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. When Michael is busy in the orchard, pruning the fruit trees, he dreams of stories and later puts them to pixels: five novels and a collection of Christmas stories. Eleanor Rigby is his first play.

A NOTE FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT:
“The writing on Eleanor Rigby seemed to be more an act of dictation than creation. There are innumerable inhabitants of the imaginary world just waiting for someone to tell their story, and, for some inexplicable reason, Eleanor Rigby chose me to be her amanuensis.

“The more I listened and then wrote down what Eleanor had to say, the more I came under her spell. Eleanor is witty and wise, passionate and resolute, and despite all her trials and tribulations, she has never given up the great dream she has for us all. I trust you will be as much enthralled by Eleanor Rigby as I have been.”
