Teachers keep fighting and winning for students!

WE DID IT!

Last night, the fabulous WSTA negotiations team met with the district for another fact finding session.

After a full day (and night!), a tentative agreement was reached!

Some highlights include:

-Fully paid benefits at the Kaiser rate, retro to January 2026 through 2027 for all groups (employee, employee + one, and employee plus family).
-4.5% raise, retro July 2025.
-4.5% total 26/27 (3% raise July 2026,1.5% raise January 2027).
-Increased stipends (15%) plus several new stipends.

A HUGE “Thank you” to our amazing negotiations team for their year long commitment to this process.

The No Kings events this weekend aren't about political parties; it’s about priorities. The priorities our students, our communities, and our country need to succeed.

That’s why each and every one of us needs to show up in our communities large and small, urban and rural, conservative and liberal, and everything in between.

Check out the link in the first comment to find an event near you.

After more than a year of negotiations and 12 days on strike, we reached a Tentative Agreement!

Keep an eye on your email for a full summary of the tentative agreement. We fought hard for this win and should all be proud.

Key highlights:
➡️Strong wage improvements: 4% in year one, 3% in year two, AND a $4,000 bonus for all bargaining unit members, pro-rated for folks who are less than full-time.
➡️Fully funded healthcare equal to Kaiser HMO coverage retroactive to July 1, 2025-26, for employees, employees plus one and families.
➡️Strengthened language for our SLP and pre-school educators, and support for IEPs, SSTs, and 504 meetings.

Tomorrow we will be back in school as a regular school day

Howard was not only a terrific union/community organizer, he was a great friend and wonderful person with a huge heart and will be missed by many.

Sacramento ACT mourns the loss of Howard Lawrence, who passed away on March 12, 2026. Howard was a core ACT leader for the last three decades, served as a Board Member, and even Interim Executive Director in the mid 2010s. Howard was grounded in his Methodist faith and believed in the power of faith-based community organizing to build long-lasting change. He dedicated thousands of hours in his local organizing committee, was a strong negotiator, and led countless research and public actions. Howard built relationships with his fellow congregants, community members, labor partners, elected officials, and leaves us with a legacy longer than we can list. Howard spent his life working to improve systems in order to address inequities. Sacramento ACT and the region are better because of his work. Our deepest sympathies to his wife Cynthia (also an ACT Leader) and the rest of their family.

“The central lesson I learned was that real change comes when people come together with shared hopes and dreams. Organizing means building something from the inside out. Good people can make almost any system work. I have spent my life working within the system to make change.” —Howard Lawrence

In faith and love,

Tere Flores-Onofre
