Last month, PRO's Community Education Manager, Rudy Regalado, had the opportunity to present at the 10th Annual Wellness Together Conference in San Diego, CA! The workshop focused on Values, Identity, and Youth Mental Wellness, exploring how values and identity can shape the way young people understand themselves and navigate their mental wellness. Rudy did an amazing job representing PRO and our MindOneSix mental wellness curriculum, showcasing the work we’re doing to support youth mental wellness.

“It was quite the experience to be able to share our work, connect with other professionals, and continue spreading the MindOneSix approach to youth mental wellness.” -Rudy Regalado

💜 September is National Recovery Month💜

Recovery is more than a destination. It’s a journey of growth, healing, and hope - a journey looks different for everyone.

This month, we’re recognizing the strength it takes to seek support, make changes, rebuild relationships, and create a healthier future. We’re also reminded that the way we talk about substance use and recovery matters. People are more than their past, and stigma should never stand in the way of someone asking for help.

Let’s use this month to learn, listen, support, and reduce stigma. Whether you’re supporting someone in recovery, learning more about recovery, or simply helping create a more understanding community, you have a role to play.

🌱 Recovery is possible.
🤝 Support makes a difference.
💜 Hope is real.

Together, we can build communities where recovery is supported, celebrated, and never something to be ashamed of.

💛 NATIONAL SU***DE PREVENTION WEEK 💛

Su***de prevention starts with awareness, and awareness starts with simply knowing what to look for.

Not every struggle is visible. Someone can appear completely fine on the outside while experiencing hopelessness, isolation, or emotional pain on the inside.

This week, take a moment to NOTICE. ASK. LISTEN. CONNECT.

🗣️ Ask the question.
👂 Listen without judgment.
🤝 Stay connected.
📞 Help connect someone to support.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a su***de or mental health crisis, call or text 988 for free, confidential support available 24/7.

One conversation can make a difference. 💛

The school year is back in session, and so is our Kind Leaders program!

Kind Leaders is a 10-week program for 4th–6th graders that builds kindness, confidence, and leadership skills. Students learn how to manage emotions, communicate, resolve conflicts, and create a positive impact at their school through a student-led kindness campaign.

PRO is conducting this program at four schools so far this school year: Mary Tsukamoto Elementary, Prairie Elementary, David Reese Elementary, and Zehnder Ranch Elementary.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, so let's talk about naloxone.

Fentanyl can be present in counterfeit pills and other substances without someone knowing. Knowing how to recognize an overdose and having naloxone (Narcan®) on hand can save a life.

Naloxone can quickly reverse an opioid overdose and is safe and easy to use.

🚨 Know the signs.
💨 Know how to use Narcan.
🎒 Carry it with you.

Keep naloxone in your bag, car, home, or workplace. You never know when you may be in a position to help save a life.

Schools are back in session, which means our summer civics programs have officially wrapped up! This year's Summer Civic Academy and Summer at City Hall were a huge success, with a total of 48 youth completing our programs.

This year was our first time hosting Summer Civic Academy at an alternative education school in Placer County. PRO's program taught youth who have already had encounters with the system to learn professional ways to advocate for themselves. This included educating the youth on the proper avenues to decision makers who can actually enact the policy changes they're advocating for.

In Rancho Cordova, our Summer at City Hall youth learn about city departments and how to navigate the world of local politics. At the end of each session, those in the program present ideas to councilmembers for their community. This year, these ideas included large-scale projects like a community center and a new library in Rancho Cordova.

Thank you to all of the youth who participated in our summer civics programs! We expect to see great things from you all in the years to come.
