The Awkward Gardener's Community Table Fighting food waste and food insecurity by distributing food surplus to those in need in the Sacramento Metro area.

Grassroots non-profit, and inspired offshoot of The Awkward Gardener. Statistics show that we could feed the world’s hungry with the massive amounts of food that are thrown away. Combined with our passion for implementing environmentally friendly and more sustainable practices, we gather food donations from community members, mutual aid organizations, and local restaurants who have perfectly good

food that would otherwise be thrown away (for whatever reason) and other supplies in good condition that need a new home. By diverting these from landfills, not only do we help Mother Earth, but we help those in need get much needed food and supplies where they might struggle to otherwise. Although a small operation, we serve dozens to hundreds of undomiciled and food insecure folks every week in the Sacramento area.

Weekly moonbellybakery surplus of various drinks and sourdough breads. Dog food EFR. Sunny D drinks and waters thanks to $upporters. There was some prepped restaurant food before I got here. I forgot to take pics, but friendly reminder to (if you have the bandwidth) always leave a pantry cleaner and more organized than you found it. 💙

Weekly TJ’s EFR haul, mostly sandwiches. Since the pickup was so tiny, $upporter funds were used to help supplement the haul: waters, yogurts, Gogurts, string cheese, bar snacks, mini popcorn bags, and Capri Suns.

Thanks to Life Integrated: “Just made a drop at the F St. fridge: individual packets of yellow pear tomatoes, and sliced cucumbers from the Life Integrated garden, lots of slices of pizza (various kinds), lots of packets of mini tacos, and a few bags of fried chicken. (There were already a few canned good items there.) Happy Monday!”

Weekly moonbellybakery contribution of surplus various sourdough breads and drinks. Coincidentally arrived at the same time as new mutual aid group Good Trouble Gang so we made for a very full pantry. Several patrons arrived while filling so this doesn’t encapsulate the whole restock.

Weekly TJ’s EFR haul. Lots of figs and salad mixes (chicken Caesar boxes and dill pickle salad kits). Please be careful as it is all very precariously in there. I own that it was my doing, but I was trying to get it to all fit in one trip.

Someone left some school meals and veggies prior to my arrival. (Thus, how I got stuck in the decision conundrum of too much for one, but too little for two stops. 🙃)
