NCCHC Concilio is proud to recognize Martin Valadez, Chair of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, as the recipient of the 2026 Campeón Trustee Award.
Born in Mexico and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Martin has built a remarkable career around one central belief: higher education has the power to transform lives and communities.
A graduate of UCLA and Stanford University, his career has crossed higher education, workforce development, philanthropy, health care, economic development, and community leadership. He has taught at institutions across the country and served in leadership roles spanning diversity and outreach, workforce education, foundation leadership, strategic initiatives, and community engagement.
His commitment to service extends well beyond his professional roles.
Today, Martin serves as Chair of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, as well as board chair of Gesa Credit Union and Mid-Columbia Libraries. Throughout his career, he has given his time and leadership to numerous organizations working to strengthen education and communities across Washington.
At the heart of it all is Martin’s commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to pursue education or training beyond high school.
That commitment to access, opportunity, and community is exactly what it means to be a Campeón.
