🚨 Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week may be ending, but our fight is far from over.

Throughout this week, we’ve highlighted the hidden costs of excessive litigation, suspected fraudulent lawsuit schemes, abusive ADA litigation and important victories like SB 690.

But California still has work to do.

Small businesses deserve protection from predatory lawsuits. Consumers deserve lower costs. And our courts should be focused on delivering justice—not enriching those who exploit the legal system.

At California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, we’ll continue fighting for commonsense reforms that protect legitimate claims while putting an end to abusive litigation practices.

Justice should be about making things right—not making someone rich.

⚖️ A victory for California consumers and businesses!

This , we’re recognizing an important legislative victory: Governor Gavin Newsom’s signing of SB 690, authored by Senator Anna Caballero.

This important reform addresses abusive lawsuits under California’s Invasion of Privacy Act (C**A), which has been used to target businesses over common website technologies.

CALA proudly supported SB 690 and thanks Senator Caballero, Governor Newsom and the lawmakers who helped advance this meaningful reform.

It’s proof that California can protect consumer privacy while preventing our legal system from being exploited for profit.

♿ California small businesses deserve protection from abusive ADA lawsuits.

CALA strongly supports accessibility and the rights of people with disabilities. But those important protections should never be exploited as a business model for predatory litigation.

Small businesses should have a reasonable opportunity to correct legitimate accessibility violations before being hit with costly lawsuits and demands for settlements.

California had an opportunity this year to enact meaningful ADA reform. The fight isn’t over.

We will continue advocating for commonsense reforms that protect accessibility and California’s small businesses.

Today, during , new research examines how businesses and insurers are increasingly turning to civil RICO actions to fight suspected fraudulent litigation schemes.

That should tell us something about how serious the problem has become.

Our courts should provide justice for legitimate claims—not be exploited through fraud, manufactured claims or abusive litigation designed to generate payouts.

It’s Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week — and there’s a hidden cost that every American family should know about.

In my latest op-ed for the Washington Examiner, I discuss the “tort tax” — the costs of lawsuit abuse that don’t appear on a tax bill but show up in the form of higher prices, insurance premiums, healthcare costs, and other everyday expenses.

The estimated cost? $5,579 per American household every year.

That’s real money coming out of family budgets because of an overly costly civil justice system.

This week is an important opportunity to shine a light on these costs and continue the conversation about meaningful legal reform.

You may never step inside a courtroom, but you’re still paying for lawsuit abuse.

According to The Perryman Group, excessive litigation costs the average American $1,771 every year in a hidden “tort tax”—or $5,579 per family—and costs our economy more than 5 million jobs.

Those costs don’t stay in the courtroom. They show up in higher prices, higher insurance premiums and a tougher environment for businesses and job creators.

This week, California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse will be highlighting the real-world costs of lawsuit abuse and why California needs a fairer, more balanced civil justice system.

California small businesses are under attack from abusive ADA lawsuits that often prioritize quick settlements over real accessibility improvements.

This week, CALA Executive Director Victor Gomez joined California Insider with The Epoch Times to discuss Senate Bill 84 — legislation aimed at creating a fair “notice and cure” process that gives business owners an opportunity to fix violations before being dragged into costly litigation.

Accessibility matters. Compliance matters. But California’s current system is being exploited in ways that hurt family-owned businesses, restaurants, retailers, and local job creators across our state.
