RRCC was quoted in Waste Dive regarding CARB’s proposed Advanced Clean Fleets amendments and the potential impact on private waste and recycling haulers serving local governments.

Our industry supports cleaner technologies and continues to evaluate zero-emission options where feasible. However, these proposed changes raise serious concerns about timing, process, vehicle availability, charging infrastructure, cost, and impacts to essential local collection services.

Waste and recycling collection is critical public infrastructure. Any transition must be realistic, legally sound, and workable for haulers, local governments, utilities, and ratepayers.

The California Air Resources Board is still working to compel a zero-emission transition for heavy-duty fleets. That includes private haulers with public contracts, a surprise to the waste industry.

Today, RRCC celebrated our annual Old Timers Tribute at Garré Vineyard & Winery — a special tradition honoring the generations who helped build California’s waste and recycling industry.

Long before “garbage” became “solid waste,” these haulers, collectors, operators, owners, and industry leaders served their communities with hard work, pride, and dedication.

Their knowledge, grit, and commitment helped shape the industry we know today — from daily operations to the technology, safety standards, and professionalism that continue to move our work forward.

We are grateful to honor these individuals of distinction and celebrate the legacy they have built for the next generation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful day.

Congratulations Sabrina Bortoli DeBattista!

RRCC appreciates POLITICO California Climate covering the growing concerns surrounding proposed amendments to CARB’s Advanced Clean Fleets regulation and the potential impacts on contracted waste and recycling fleets across California.

As highlighted in the article, approximately 85% of California communities rely on private waste and recycling operators to provide essential public services. Local governments, service providers, and communities deserve regulatory clarity and implementation pathways that are achievable in the real world.

RRCC looks forward to continued engagement with CARB, local government partners, and stakeholders on this important issue.

RRCC’s 46th Annual Legislative Luncheon and Lobby Day did not disappoint.

Thank you to Senator Tim Grayson and CalEPA Deputy Secretary for Public Policy Marlene De La O for joining us for an engaging luncheon on the recycling, organics, and waste policy issues facing California.

After lunch, RRCC’s Next Generation alumni headed to the Capitol Swing Space to meet with 19 legislative offices. They discussed RRCC’s support for SB 501, which would improve the safe collection and management of medium-format batteries, and AB 1812, which would help keep plastic materials out of composting systems and protect organics recycling. They also shared RRCC’s concerns with the latest Advanced Clean Fleets regulatory developments affecting waste and recycling haulers.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make the day such a success.

This Earth Day, we recognize the essential service providers who help make California’s circular economy real.

By separating organics from the waste stream, our industry helps keep valuable material out of landfills and put it to better use through compost and other beneficial products. That work supports healthier soils, cleaner communities, and a stronger environment. California’s organics collection system is designed to recover cleaner material for products like compost, and controlled composting reduces methane compared with landfilling organic waste.

RRCC is proud to represent the companies making that work happen every day across California.
