✨So excited to share that our recent Type 1 Diabetes & Oral Health webinar for dental professionals was a success with a great turnout of dentists, hygienists, and other members of the dental community joining us to learn more about the unique oral health considerations of people living with T1D💙🦷
A sincere thank you to the California Dental Association (CDA) California Dental Association for giving us the opportunity to present this important topic and help bring greater awareness of Type 1 diabetes into the dental setting. 💙

Did you miss the webinar?
It’s not too late! The course is available on demand, and dental professionals can earn Continuing Education (CE) credit upon completion.

If you’re living with T1D or are a parent or caregiver, consider sharing the course with your dentist or dental team. 🦷💙 The more dental professionals understand about the day-to-day realities of T1D, from glucose management and hypoglycemia to its potential impact on oral health, the better prepared they can be to support their T1D patients.
Register through the link in our bio.

✨And stay tuned. We have more to come as we continue working to bring Type 1 diabetes and oral health into the same conversation.✨

Living with Type-1 diabetes means sugar is often medicine …. but that doesn’t mean your smile has to suffer. 💙😀🦷

Living with Type-1 diabetes means managing both highs and lows. Treating lows exposes teeth to sugar, while high blood sugars can increase sugar in the saliva. Over time, these changes can disrupt the mouth’s natural microbiome - the healthy balance of bacteria that protects your teeth and gums - and increase the risk of cavities and gum disease.

The good news? A few simple habits can make a big difference. 👏

✨✨5 easy tips to help protect your smile:

💧 Sip or rinse with water after treating a low whenever possible.

🍬 Choose glucose sources that are less sticky, and avoid sour or acidic options when you can.

🪥 Brush 2–3 times a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss daily.

🦷 Tell your dental team you have Type 1 diabetes. It helps them provide a safer visit and understand your oral health risks.

📅 See your dentist every 3–4 months for preventive care. Yes, that’s more often than the traditional 6-month visit, but an ounce of prevention goes a long way ✨

Healthy teeth are about more than brushing. Gum disease and dental infections can make it harder to manage blood sugar and can impact sugar control and A1c. Taking care of your oral health is an important part of whole body health.

Save this post for later, and share it with someone in the T1D community. Together, we can make oral health a routine part of diabetes care.

For too long, oral health has been the missing piece of Type 1 diabetes education. We’re here to change that.

✨Back at UCLA speaking with future dentists 💙💛. It’s so important to teach the next generation of dentists what life with Type 1 Diabetes really looks like….not just clinically but the day to day “lived” experience for families navigating it. As dentists , understanding this lived experience shapes more compassionate, thoughtful care for a population at higher risk for oral health challenges.
With the incredible support of the Orange County Dental Society (OCDS), awareness around T1D and oral health is growing. Special thank you to Dr. Noha Nour, OCDS President, for believing in this mission and for truly hearing the voices of so many families, and thank you to Dr. Rana Al Rasheed for bringing much needed awareness to oral-systemic care, bridging medical-dental collaboration. 💙💛

Honored to have had the opportunity to speak with the Pediatric Dentistry residents at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry about the important connection between Type 1 diabetes and oral health. 💙

Thank you for the warm welcome, thoughtful discussion, and commitment to advancing care for children and families. Bringing greater awareness to how systemic health and oral health intersect is so important, and I’m grateful to contribute to that conversation. ✨💙

I truly appreciated the chance to share this topic and connect with such dedicated future specialists. Thank you again for having me. 🙏
