Lion's Roar Dharma Center

Lion's Roar Dharma Center Welcome to Lion's Roar Dharma Center, a Vajrayana Buddhist community & international arts center in Sacramento, CA in the tradition of the XIV Dalai Lama

Our Buddhist community was founded by Geshe Lobsang Gyatso and is directed by Lama Yeshe Jinpa. We provide a wide variety of programs, meditation instruction and Buddhist teachings that are especially designed for people with daily work, school or family commitments. Our programs are designed to include all levels of practitioners. We are committed to a vision that recognizes the interdependence o

f all beings, where through the practice of compassion, skillful means and Bodhisattva activities we can liberate and awaken ourselves and all other sentient beings, coming to Shambhala together.

You are invited to join our weekly Tonglen practice for World Peace on Zoom. Tonglen is a Tibetan Buddhist meditation practice of “sending and taking.” It helps us open the heart, cultivate compassion, and bring loving awareness to suffering our own and others’.

Join us for Contemplative Dance Practice this Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM!

This practice invites us to explore meditation through both stillness and movement.

Each session includes sitting meditation, gentle solo movement, open space for shared movement or observation, and a brief closing reflection. This is not choreography and it is not a performance. It is a practice of noticing the body, the mind, and the present moment.

Everyone is welcome. No dance experience is needed. Participants may move, sit, pause, observe, or rest at any time. Contact with others is always optional, and simply watching with care is considered full participation.

Please wear comfortable clothing. Bare feet or soft shoes are recommended.

Come as you are.

This is now a regular practice, happening on the third Saturday of each month and every other Sunday (when Lama Yeshe Jinpa Rinpoche teaches) at 3:30 PM. It'll be posted to the web calendar soon!

Stick around Lion’s Roar Dharma Center long enough and, sooner or later, someone will ask you to help out. Whether it’s setting up meditation cushions, washing dishes, emptying the trash, or planting flowers, there are many ways to serve. Over time, those responsibilities often change, expand, and deepen along with our commitment to the path and the community. And if you have the heart for it, you may find yourself stepping into mentoring or other leadership role.

But so-called leadership at the Temple doesn’t look quite like leadership in the conventional world. It’s less about title and authority than service. Less about having the answers than being willing to learn in the moment. It takes heart, to be sure, but also patience to work with difficult personalities—especially our own—and the willingness to look foolish in front of the Teacher.

Join Yeshe Tsogyal this Sunday, June 14th, at 11:00 am, for a look at what it means to mentor and lead at LRDC, where the usual measures of success don’t always apply, the lessons are often unexpected, and the practice is as much about transforming ourselves as helping others.
