Lion's Roar Dharma Center

Lion's Roar Dharma Center Welcome to Lion's Roar Dharma Center, a Vajrayana Buddhist community & international arts center in Sacramento, CA in the tradition of the XIV Dalai Lama

Our Buddhist community was founded by Geshe Lobsang Gyatso and is directed by Lama Yeshe Jinpa. We provide a wide variety of programs, meditation instruction and Buddhist teachings that are especially designed for people with daily work, school or family commitments. Our programs are designed to include all levels of practitioners. We are committed to a vision that recognizes the interdependence o

f all beings, where through the practice of compassion, skillful means and Bodhisattva activities we can liberate and awaken ourselves and all other sentient beings, coming to Shambhala together.

Yeshe Gyurme’s talk, Sunday at 11 AM, will explore the protective aspect of fierce deities and invite us to reconsider our own relationship with anger, not as something to suppress, but as a powerful energy that can be transformed into that into clarity, courage, compassion, and skillful action.

Join us for a peaceful evening of singing bowl meditation at 6:00 PM this Wednesday, August 19th. The gentle tones and vibrations of the bowls help calm the mind, relax the body, and create a space for quiet reflection and healing. This simple practice is open to everyone—no experience is needed. Come sit, listen, and allow the sound to settle the heart and restore balance.

Sunday, August 16th, 11:00 AM - In Vajrayana Buddhism, we are looking for certainty. Real Certainty is the Lion’s Roar! Real certainty is a passionate yes to love, to life, to joy. When you truly love someone, you wouldn’t say, “Let’s stay together in don’t-know mind.” No! Certainty is passionate. Certainty celebrates the love that is life itself.

“Don’t-know mind” is often offered as an answer to questions such as: Why are we here? Who is practicing? There is value in not becoming trapped by fixed concepts. But that is different from remaining perpetually uncertain.

Then there is the Western philosophical tradition of skepticism—an intelligent, and at time sense of cool detachment. Vajrayana points us somewhere else. It invites us toward a certainty that is alive, intimate, courageous, and wholehearted.

This is not certainty about controlling what will happen next. It is certainty born from recognizing what is true Real certainty does not stand apart from life. It says yes to it.

“In this practice, self-awareness is vital. Without knowing we are suffering, we will have no desire to change it; and without knowing the roots of that suffering, we will have no means to change it.” Geshe Tashi Tsering

This Sunday, August 9th, please join Yeshe Tekchen and Yeshe Yonten at 11:00 AM for a discussion about various tools for obtaining greater self-awareness including well-known instruments such as the Myers-Briggs Interest Inventory, the historical Enneagram, and newer adaptations of ancient tools as is used in Human Design.

Equipped with the knowledge of our personal self we can better understand how our personality adaptations have served us and how those same adaptations can become obstacles on the path to enlightenment.
