Our response to Governor Newsom's Proposed Budget ⬇️

As California’s cost of living crisis expands, the January budget zeroes out key affordable housing and homelessness programs.

The housing coalition urges the Administration to work with the Legislature in the coming months to restore resources in the budget for affordable housing and homelessness. This budget is essential to keeping vulnerable Californians housed in our rural, Tribal and farmworker communities.

SB 634 makes it clear: cities can't block life-saving outreach & services for people experiencing homelessness.

Without services + housing, there is no real path forward. Governor Newsom

A bill on the governor’s desk would stop cities from chasing away supportive services and workers who help unhoused people survive the streets.

The Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026 is the next step California needs. It places a $10 billion bond on next year’s ballot — allowing voters to support the production and preservation of affordable housing for lower-income households.

Two housing bonds — both with the same name and the same goal — are moving through the Legislature this year. Their passage is critical to help every community build more of the safe, affordable homes Californians need.

The best way to make housing more affordable is to build more affordable homes. But with housing funding running out, there is real danger affordable production could come to a halt.

Let Governor Newsom and your State Legislators know that affordable homeownership is important to you and to our communities!

Negotiations with the Governor continue through the end of the month.

The proposed budget includes no funding for CalHome—the only state program that builds affordable ownership housing for low-income, first-time buyers. With no known opposition and growing support from key legislators, this is a critical window to influence the final budget.

Whether you're taking action for the first time or lending your voice again, we need you. Help us send a clear message: California cannot solve its housing crisis without building more homes—and CalHome must be part of the solution 👉

Cuts to housing and homelessness programs will lead to more Californians becoming unhoused. We cannot afford to lose ground during hard times. Our must prioritize people, especially low income households. Our https://bit.ly/25-26Budget blueprint shows us how.
