It’s a simple idea: support people early, and the profession grows stronger because of it.

That’s what CAF’s scholarship programs are all about: architects and firms across California coming together to invest in the next generation. When the profession shows up for its own, it creates more pathways in, more perspectives at the table, and a stronger future for the next generation.

Explore and share CAF scholarship opportunities! Apply by April 22: https://calarchfoundation.org/what-we-do/scholarships/

Attending AIA26? CAF’s Architecture by the Book program will be featured in the opening session of “Building the Architecture Pipeline,” highlighting how architects are engaging students through hands-on experiences and expanding access to the profession early on.

Our thanks to the AIA K-12 IDEA Group for including CAF in this important conversation. See you there!

AIA Architecture Week continues across California, with the Architecture by the Book program bringing architects into K–12 classrooms!

Today at Rancho Christian School in Temecula, over 60 fifth grade students took part in a lesson featuring architect Rafael Viñoly. The students were excited to meet architects and loved designing their own public spaces: sketching ideas and then building models with recycled materials.

Architecture by the Book is driven by volunteers. Our thanks to Nathan Houck, AIA; Nick Wilson, AIA (both of Sillman | Architecture Design + Build); and Michael Citron, Assoc. AIA. Special thanks to Maxine Ward, AIA of Studio E Architects, as well as Rancho Christian School for their warm welcome.

The program has over 100 volunteers across California. Architects and architecture student, join us! Learn more and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/g72mmh6e

It’s AIA Architecture Week, and the California Architectural Foundation (CAF) is celebrating with a new statewide Architecture Coloring Book!

Featuring projects from across California, the illustrations highlight how architects shape the places where we live, learn, and connect.
Download a free copy at the link below or reach out to CAF for hard copies (local AIA Chapters will also have them available in the coming month). CAF thanks Flewelling & Moody for generously sponsoring the print edition.

This project is part of CAF’s Built Environment Education Program (BEEP), alongside Architecture by the Book and KidsDraw, expanding access to design education across the state. Originally created by AIA Central Valley, the coloring book now reaches communities statewide thanks to the collaboration of architects, emerging professionals, and students who helped bring it to life.

Architecture firms: the next generation is looking for you!

The capX (California Architectural Practice Experience) platform is now in its second year, connecting architecture students and emerging professionals with real-world experience inside firms across California.

Students are enrolling now and are eager to learn what practice really looks like. The question is: will your firm open the door?

capX is designed to be flexible and accessible for firms of all sizes. Whether you’re a sole practitioner, a small studio, a large firm, or an alternative practice setting, there’s a way to participate:

• Host a paid intern
• Offer a job shadow
• Provide virtual mentoring
• Expand an existing internship program to reach more students
• Share insights and guidance with emerging professionals

Paid internships are incredible opportunities, but even one conversation, one shadow day, or a virtual meet-up can change a student’s trajectory.

If you’ve ever wondered how to help the next generation of architects find their path, this is one of the simplest ways to do it.

Firm enrollment closes March 9th and takes only a few minutes.
