⚠️ 50,000 people were evacuated in Garden Grove because of a chemical explosion threat and experts warn this will not be the last time. 🏭☠️

🗣️ “What’s happening at Garden Grove — we’re going to see a lot more of that due to these environmental rollbacks,” said Deja McCauley of PSR LA.

As California weakens environmental review laws and fast-tracks development near hazardous industrial sites, frontline communities are being put at even greater risk. 🏘️⚡ SB 954 would restore critical CEQA protections and strengthen safeguards around where dangerous facilities can operate. 📜✊

We cannot keep sacrificing public health for deregulation and unchecked development. 🌎🚨

Volunteers from the bay, san diego and southland- staff from all over california advocated to protect 30% of our lands and oceans in California by 2030.

Staff and volunteers advocated for Ab 2218 tribal water rights, Ab 2494 Forest management, and SB 1268 Outdoors For all as well as continued funding for the agencies involved in conservation in California.

Now is the time to advocate and to fight for funding because there are 378 positions slated to be cut from the budget; while simultaneously putting more work on those agencies and the creation and expansion of state parks.

Thanks to all staff and volunteers for great work on the ground!

🚨 Governor Newsom’s final May Budget Revision falls short on climate action.
Despite an improved fiscal outlook, the proposed budget includes NO major new investments in clean transportation, building decarbonization, or other critical climate solutions California urgently needs. 🌎⚠️
At a time when Californians are facing worsening wildfires, rising gas prices, polluted air, and increasing climate disasters, our state should be scaling up investments in renewable energy, electrification, and environmental protection; not standing still.
Californians deserve a budget that protects our communities, climate, and future. 💚

Polluters want to delay clean air protections. Today, 99 Bay Area community members packed an Bay Area Air District meeting to say no. 🚫 Thanks for all the turnout 🙏

Burning gas in homes and buildings generates more smog-forming NOx pollution than every passenger car in the Bay Area combined.

These standards help households upgrade to cleaner, more efficient electric appliances — better for your health, and better for your energy bills.

No delays. Tell Bay Area Air District: implement these rules with common-sense flexibility measures on time.

Sierra Club California has officially endorsed Tom Steyer for Governor of California! Steyer has a long record of investing in climate solutions, taking on Big Oil, and helping build the coalitions needed to win major environmental fights.

“California needs a governor who understands both the scale of the climate crisis and the urgency of delivering results,” said Miguel Miguel, Director of Sierra Club California. “Tom Steyer has spent years providing resources to the climate movement that have allowed organizations to create progress in our most critical environmentally burdened communities. He has shown he is ready to stand up to fossil fuel interests and prepared to fight for clean energy, affordability, public health, and environmental justice.”

The Endangered Species Act is under threat.
Since the 1970s, this landmark law has helped bring species back from the brink of extinction and remains one of the most powerful conservation tools we have. Today, it protects incredible wildlife like the grizzly bear, gray wolf, salmon, and orca.
Now, legislation in Congress could weaken these protections and put countless species at risk.
We cannot let that happen.
Tell Congress to defend the Endangered Species Act and protect the future of our wildlife. 🌎

AI-powered platforms are being used to submit fake comments opposing clean air rules, and California's democratic process is paying the price.

A new investigation found that an industry front group, Common Sense Coalition, used the AI platform Speak4 to submit fake public comments to Bay Area Air District regulators in real residents' names, without their knowledge or consent. At least 10 residents confirmed they never authorized the emails.

This follows reporter Hayley Smith’s investigation, which found that more than 20,000 AI-generated comments flooded the South Coast Air Quality Management District before critical clean air rules were voted down, rules that would have prevented thousands of premature deaths and asthma cases across Southern California. When SCAQMD’s cybersecurity team contacted a small sample of commenters to verify, a majority said they had not submitted the comments in their names.

This is a statewide pattern, and Sacramento is responding. Sen. Christopher Cabaldon has introduced SB 1159, "People, Not Bots," to clarify that AI systems are not considered "persons" under California's public comment and transparency laws.

But new legislation alone isn't enough. Community leaders are calling on to investigate who is behind these campaigns, how many identities were used without consent, and whether California law was broken.

Submit a public comment ahead of the March 13th deadline to protect California’s public lands. 🌿
The Bureau of Land Management is currently updating land management plans that could allow expanded oil and gas drilling across hundreds of thousands of acres in Central California.
These proposals could impact landscapes near places like Carrizo Plain National Monument, Pinnacles National Park, and other beloved natural areas.
These lands support wildlife, protect cultural landscapes, and give communities access to clean air, water, and the outdoors.
🗓 Public comments are open until March 13.
Tell the BLM to:
• Protect intact public lands and wildlife habitat
• Reject expanded oil and gas drilling
• Honor Tribal sovereignty and cultural landscapes
• Prioritize recreation, clean air and water, and climate resilience
Adding a personal message about what public lands mean to you makes your comment even more impactful.
