Parent Voices CA demonstrates the results of collective parent power in sounding the alarm over the negative impact of private equity in child care. On Sept. 19th, parents at La Petite Academy of Antioch (LPAA) held a press conference outside the child care center to call out Learning Care Group and American Securities LLC on placing profits over kids.

PV Contra Costa Parent Leaders Erica Britton and Tiffany Reed, and PV Contra Costa Organizer Leshay Burks, were featured speakers at the press conference. They report Title 22 teacher-to-child ratio violations, high staff turnover rates, and how private equity in child care undermines the well-being of kids and teachers. Parents also say they are charged extra fees for basic things like “pre-K curriculum.”

The press conference follows La Petite Academy District Manager Keirstan Faulkner’s refusal to meet with the group of parents to discuss their list of ten demands and calls for transparency. Faulkner offered to meet with each parent individually, ignoring parent solidarity and a demand for collective solutions to the collective problems.

At the 11th hour during the press conference, Learning Care Group contacted PV Contra Costa and finally agreed to meet with the parent group to hear their list of ten demands. Parent Voices stands in solidarity with the teachers and families at La Petite Academy. Stay tuned for the follow-up to this story!

Let’s be clear: PARENTS are here!

Parent Voices stands with each and every one of our child care providers! The flickering light that Brianna held that night was more than just a candle; it was a powerful symbol of the unyielding light that burns brightly within all of us.

It represents our collective determination, our shared hope, and our unwavering commitment as we fight to maintain the sacred bond that exists between parents and providers.

💙 Today we joined partners End Child Poverty CA in a lunch and .

🫶🏿 Our parent spoke her truth with working with to legislators and partners.

Image Description: First image shows parent Kyonie selfie at the beach with a sunset behind her. 2nd image is a powerful quote from her testimony “CalWORKS is a blessing and a burden. It’s a blessing because it can provide assistance that you need, but it’s a burden because the system fails us. They don’t take what we’re going through seriously, maybe because they haven’t experienced it directly.
When you don’t get a good worker, that’s when it’s really a burden. The worker discourages you, they make you feel defeated when you already are feeling defeated.
It’s already not easy to reach out to ask for help so when you do reach out and they make you feel bad it makes it even harder.“
