Friends of Colonial Heights Board Updates
By Marianne Gonzales Sims, President
Your Friends of Colonial Heights Library Board of Directors is excited to host an educational speaker event on Saturday, June 13, from 2 to 4 pm in the Library's community room. The topic is Artificial Intelligence for Non–Technical People. Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents a transformative frontier in technology, with systems designed to mimic human cognitive functions such as learning, reasoning, and independent decision-making. The ultimate goal of AI is the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), capable of human-level versatility but with that comes concerns.
Join us to learn about the history of AI, what machine learning means, and how the mega-databases operate to store this information. We will also discuss a few things in your daily life that could be generated by AI.
About presenter Stephanie Gibbs
Stephanie began her career in technology at a NASA supplier that manufactures electronics for the Space Shuttle. Her "AHA" moment was writing her first line of code… and it worked! From that time on, she knew she belonged in computer software development. It was just the way she thought. She moved on to Apple Computer and was the first MIS Manager at the Fremont Factory, producing the Mac Computer. She led the development team working on the new factory control software. Fast forward a few years to 1989, when she opened her own consulting firm to high-tech companies. Then, another company developing an Artificial Intelligence patent search engine in 2005 or so. Now, she has only a few clients but keeps active in website development, database, and security techniques.
