California Conservation Corps

California Conservation Corps This is the official Facebook for the California Conservation Corps - a State of California Dept.

The California Conservation Corps is a department within the California Natural Resources Agency. We are the oldest and largest conservation corps in the nation. Our program provides young adults 18 – 25 years old, and military veterans up to 29, a year of paid service to the State of California. During their year of service, Corpsmembers work on environmental projects and respond to natural and man-made disasters. Through this work, they gain skills and experience that lead to meaningful careers. Our motto is ‘Hard Work, Low Pay, Miserable Conditions and More!’ We are dedicated to developing our Corpsmembers into citizens with character, credentials, and commitment. Not only did Audrianna earn her high school diploma, she also earned certifications that can lead to a great career, and, in her words, gained a family along the way.

Mentors at her center, encouraged Hoyt to explore new horizons figuratively and literally. “The Japan exchange plus taking part in backcountry spikes was the most freeing and true to myself I’ve been. I now believe in myself anywhere I go,” she said. Now Hoyt chooses to take the pass least travelled, maintaining remote backcountry trails in Sequoia National Park. It’s a wild and wonderful .

More than that, he also found friendship. “After putting in long hours on a fire or being away from home on a staffing pattern, building a bond with my crew by playing volleyball was the best,” he said. These experiences at the Center shaped who he is as a leader, setting him up to reach the next step in his . Now he’s joined the Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit/Shasta County Fire Department as a Firefighter 1, where he will continue to dig deep and make a positive impact.
