Lover’s Leap Campground is open for the season. We have a new host - say hi & play nice.

Day use $10 & overnight camping $36 stay same as last year. Costs have remained stable for several years despite confusion around which passes provide discounts - we will clarify ASAP. Water & bathrooms are open.

Please be bear aware - last year bad food storage led to a bear being caught & euthanized. We’d all like to avoid that - there are bear boxes, please use them. We replaced the carabiner on the dumpster twice last season because it got stolen - please don’t do that.

Please be fire conscious - it’s shaping up to be a bad fire year. Consider skipping your campfire esp if windy, keep fires in metal rings & dead them out completely. Every year locals put out multiple camp fires that are left burning. Everyone is worried about this fire season.

Over the past three months & CRAGS have donated time + money to clean & restock the bathrooms.

Over the last 3 years we have negotiated with Royal Elk & EldoNF to have the bathrooms remain unlocked over-winter which has reduced the amount of literal shxt we find out at the crag. I carried a full wag bag out from the East Wall last week left behind by someone… Open bathrooms have only been possible because of the relationships we’ve built with the FS personnel who are often on our side - recreationalists - and not the side of ‘the man’ or rising costs - they’re understaffed, underfunded & under-resourced.

I have been asked by a number of locals in South Lake & Strawberry to remind everyone that there is NO CAMPING including on the SLIPPERY FORD road - which is signed.

There is also no camping on Strawberry Lane. There is free dispersed camping on FS land.

Falcon closures remain in effect for the Central Wall. Birds are nesting just right of the first pitch belay of Eagle Buttress. Lover’s Chimney & Bookmark are outside of the closure and are open.

Burger Night runs every Saturday. 6-9pm. $5 burgers.

We’re hanging out The Boulder Field today for USA Climbing divisionals

It’s rainy so even though we’d rather be climbing rocks it’s fun to see the powerhouse climbers of the next generation pulling down for a spot at nationals.

Big thanks to The Boulder Field for their ongoing donations and support to help local access and stewardship work. We can’t do it without community partners and support. Carlo Traversi The Boulder Field and team have been consistent supporters - huge thanks!

If you climb outside then it’s imperative that you join the Access Fund - get a joint membership with your local climbing organization like us CRAGS or our partners in Tahoe Tahoe Climbing Coalition (TCC) or the Bay Bay Area Climbers Coalition

We need your dollars locally as much as the AF needs your support nationally so don’t be afraid to hit the links in bio and drop a tip in our jar. It’s tax deductible so that makes it cool.

When you’re out at the crag remember that your small impact isn’t so small anymore now that there are 10million active climbers in the US. Let us know if you see an issue. Keep an eye out for closures and take care of the local communities where we recreate.

Keep an eye out as we start rolling out our spring summer and fall schedule.

We have trail days and other events coming up and we will need your help!

See you all at the gym or on the rock…

FALCON CLOSURE
Attention Climbers!

Please respect nesting falcons!

*Peregrine Falcons are nesting right of Eagle Buttress*

PLEASE AVOID ALL routes on the Central Wall formation from
Rated X to the Hourglass inclusive.

 Climbing closure includes all Rated X, all Eagle Buttress and all Hourglass routes.

 Falcons will protect their nests. Please respect closures; keep your distance. Do NOT fly drones.

 Be aware and avoid any routes where falcons are aggressive in defending their nests.

 Thank you for helping to protect Peregrine Falcons and climbing access at Lover’s Leap.

Falcon monitoring is a joint effort between Eldorado NF, and

Please report issues to [email protected]

This closure is smaller and more specific for the past few years because we’ve taken an active role in monitoring and reporting using behavioral ecology as basis for the closures - rather than larger longer blanket closures of the past. Help us keep it smaller and reopening sooner by following best practices and avoiding the closure area.

Thanks everyone. Happy early climbing season.
