This is the official page of Sacramento Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Sacramento Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

was chartered on October 14, 1950. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout
the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the
Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college ed

ucated
women. This includes over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea. The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Educational Development, Political Awareness and Involvement, and International Awareness and Involvement. Happy !

Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.

Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.

Did you know that a part of the history and legacy of Sacramento Alumnae is Delta Days at the State Capitol? Since 1986, members have gathered in the state's capital (Sacramento) to be engaged and informed citizens advocating for our communities. Through these efforts, Delta Youth State was also born and first chaired by Gloria Robertson. We are SOCIAL ACTION!
