"[My son] was burned in an accident when he was 3 years old and stayed at Shriners Hospital for 7 weeks. He attended Little Heroes a few times and we were so grateful for those camps. He is thriving now, as an 11 year old and has just started middle school last week." - Jannette
Sometimes we hit the jackpot and an opportunity comes along for our community that we cannot pass up--that was the case for Monster Jam! Thanks to the City of Sacramento donating their suite at the Golden1 Center, we were able to send five groups of burn survivor families to check out the show. We are grateful for opportunities to stay engaged with our burn community outside of our camp programming like Little Heroes Family Burn Camp and Firefighters Kids Camp.

Today, on National Nonprofit Day, we honor the vision that started it all.

In 1973, Sacramento Fire Captain Cliff Haskell saw a need for something more, a way to support burn survivors long after they left the hospital. With his wife, Tillie, standing beside him every step of the way, Cliff turned that vision into the Firefighters Burn Institute. (pictured in the bottom right)

Through camps, retreats, family support and programs that foster connection and healing, we’re here to remind every survivor and family that they don’t have to face their journey alone.

Their vision became a mission. That mission became a community. And that community continues to change lives.

Today, we’re proud to honor where FFBI began, celebrate where we are today, and look forward to the lives we’ll continue to impact together. To everyone who has donated, volunteered their time, and helped spread our mission, thank you, we are beyond grateful.

Lunch Bunch is a short educational session aimed at burn survivors and hosted by the UC Davis Medical Center burn unit and Firefighters Burn Institute. Meetings held monthly on Zoom from 12-12:30 PM
