Myofunctional Therapy is here in Sacramento! This is an introductory course in Myofunctional Therapy.

Participants will learn to recognize common signs of dysfunctional breathing (mouth breathing, poor lip seal), abnormal oral rest posture (low tongue posture, scalloped tongue), deviant swallow patterns, and tethered oral tissues. The course also reviews airway-centered risk pathways—including snoring, UARS, and obstructive sleep apnea—and discusses how hygienists can communicate findings, document risk indicators, and collaborate within an interdisciplinary referral network.

Attendees will leave with a “Start Monday” screening checklist and patient-friendly language to support prevention-focused care.

What a rewarding Saturday serving the local community of Placerville, California, by providing free dental hygiene services through the Bridges to Health Free Clinic, hosted at the Placerville Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Today, volunteers from across the region came together to offer free medical, dental, and vision care to individuals and families in need. Events like these are a powerful reminder that access to healthcare remains a significant barrier for many people, and that compassionate, community-driven outreach can make a meaningful difference.

It was an honor to help improve oral health, provide preventive care, and support patients who may otherwise go without essential dental services. Grateful to be part of a team dedicated to expanding access to care and improving the health and well-being of our community. In attendance was SVDHA's leadership: Jessica (president), Faye (CE Coordinator) and Cindy (President-Elect).

A big THANK YOU to all who donated time and money to get our Sacramento City College students to Anaheim!

We put together $2,520 to assist them in their poster applications, travel to Anaheim, gas, and lodging for CDHA's Spring Scientific! Wishing both groups the best of luck in their competition today. Make great memories!

To the dental hygienist moms and mother figures — Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Every day, you spend your time caring for others. At work, you comfort anxious patients, educate families, advocate for healthier lives, and create smiles that change confidence and wellbeing. Then you go home and continue giving your love, patience, strength, and care to your own families.

Being a caretaker both in the operatory and at home is no small task. The emotional labor, long days, and constant dedication often go unseen, but today we celebrate you for all that you do.

Thank you for the compassion you bring to your profession and the love you pour into your homes. Your impact reaches far beyond oral health — you make people feel cared for, heard, and valued every single day.
