On Monday evening, about 140 Sacramento County residents filled Congregation B’Nai Israel to hear directly from the two candidates for Board of Supervisors District 1, Dr. Flo Cofer and Eric Guerra, in a forum focused on social justice. With Supervisor Phil Serna retiring after 16 years, this is a rare open seat in a district covering roughly half the city of Sacramento.
Candidates answered community-submitted questions on immigration enforcement and the sanctuary law, surveillance technology like Flock and AI, free transit for students, Medi-Cal, the carceral system, ranked choice voting, and more. A reception followed, giving neighbors the chance to talk one-on-one with the candidates.

The forum fell on the same day mail-in ballots dropped, and attendees signed pledge cards committing to vote, bring others along, and protect the election process. Studies show 9 out of 10 people who pledge to vote actually do. ✅
