University of Scouting holds a special place in our troop's heart — some of our dedicated leaders have attended annually since before our troop was even founded, a true testament to their commitment to lifelong learning.
This year is even more meaningful as our Scouts are honored to lead the opening flag ceremony. With an impressive variety of courses available, there's never been a better time to invest in your growth as a leader.

Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of justice, equality, and service to community. His vision reminds us that nature and public spaces belong to everyone.

In celebration of MLK Day, California State Parks is offering FREE vehicle day-use entry today, January 19th! 🌲

Dr. King taught us that "all life is interrelated" and that we are "caught in an inescapable network of mutuality." As we explore California's natural wonders today, we're reminded of our deep connection to the earth and to each other.

This is a perfect opportunity to reflect on his persistent question: "What are you doing for others?" Whether it's a peaceful walk on the beach, a hike through redwoods, or time by a lake—let today be a day of connection, reflection, and service.

This year we are honoring (Monday, Jan. 19) with FREE vehicle day-use to over 200 participating state parks! See the list of parks here ⬇️

As we have officially closed out 2025 and have stepped into a new year, we're taking a moment to reflect on what Troop 5010 has accomplished together.

It is the humble opinion of this Adult Leader that the most rewarding service project our troop participated in in 2025 was the Annual Toy Drive, benefiting Outside The Walls, which brought in over 2,300 toys, about 27 bicycles, and countless smiles.

Our Scouts showed what it truly means to serve others, collecting toys and spreading hope to families and youth much like themselves. Watching them work together and understanding the impact of their efforts—reminded us why Scouting matters.

To every Scout who participated, every family who donated, and to Outside The Walls for the incredible work you do in our community: thank you. You've made this holiday season brighter for children who needed it most.

This is what building character looks like. This is service in action.

⚜️ Scouts of Troop 5010 collected donations throughout the community, transported them to the collection site, then partnered with Greenhaven Soccer Club to bag and load everything onto the truck for delivery to Outside The Walls.

🫂 Outside The Walls is an organization that strives to help individuals and families impacted by the justice system, poverty, homelessness, and violence, offering support like mentoring, food, clothing, and classes to promote family restoration and community well-being.

Happy New Year from Troop 5010!

~

🎉We had an amazing turnout for our Court of Honor last night - coming together with our fellow Scouts and families to celebrate!

A Court of Honor is a special ceremony where Scouts are formally recognized for earning merit badges and advancing in rank - a time to reflect, celebrate, and share success with our Scouting community! ⚜️

Congratulations to all our Scouts for their accomplishments - and to the parents who managed to not get stuck with the rank pins this time! ❤️‍🩹

Camp Winton – Day 3: July 15th

Tuesday was full of excitement and memorable moments.

The day started with a check-in with a resident — a bird had nested right in our campsite, perched at eye level. We all made a conscious effort to give her space and keep the area calm while she cared for her babies. It was a gentle reminder of how close to nature we are out here.

Our troop had the honor of leading flag service both in the morning and evening. As part of the camp tradition, we were also invited to fly our troop flag on Flag Rock — a real privilege that meant a lot to us. 🫡

While our Scouts were in classes, some of the adults in our troop worked on a campwide service project and repaired a bench near Flag Rock — ensuring that this little reminder is able to be appreciated by campers for at least another few years.

We ended the day with a high-energy session with the Adventure Team: a classic game of Capture the Flag! Scout spirits were high, and everyone had a blast running, strategizing, and rescuing each other from jail. 🏴
