ACS CAN, the nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, is the nation’s leading cancer advocacy organization that is working every day to make cancer issues a local, state, and national priority. We engage our volunteers across the country to make their voices heard by policymakers at every level of government. Claudia Pérez-Favela, una voluntaria de ACS CAN California de Imperial, habló con Noticias N+ Univision 24/7 sobre cómo las pruebas de detección le ayudaron a prevenir el cáncer de cuello uterino y, por ende, le salvaron la vida.

Un estudio publicado por la American Cancer Society (ACS) revela que el cáncer es la principal causa de muerte en la comunidad hispana y latina de los Estados Unidos. El informe, “Estadísticas sobre el cáncer en la población hispana y latina, 2026”, apunta a que las tasas de cáncer de cuello uterino son un 36 % más altas en las mujeres hispanas en comparación con las mujeres de raza blanca, y el doble de tasas de cáncer de hígado y de estómago (cánceres relacionados con infecciones que, en gran medida, son prevenibles).

ACS CAN insta a los legisladores de todos los niveles de gobierno a que den prioridad al acceso a una atención médica integral y económica, incluidos los servicios preventivos como las vacunas, que pueden ayudar a prevenir algunos tipos de cáncer por completo, y las pruebas de detección, que pueden ayudar a detectar el cáncer en una etapa más temprana y más tratable.

Hundreds of Lights of Hope will illuminate the Jimmy Stewart Rose Garden at Providence Saint John’s Health Center, creating a powerful tribute to lives touched by cancer.

Each glowing luminaria tells a story and shines a light on the need for continued investments on cancer research and prevention.

This heartfelt display also serves as a reminder that elected officials play a critical role in helping end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

Earlier this month, more than 700 ACS CAN advocates from across the country traveled to Washington, D.C., to urge Congress to support lifesaving policies.
