Year end shoot out and Christmas party. A good time was had by all, thank you everyone for bringing a dish to the potluck dinner, the food was fantastic. We had a “secret white elephant” gift exchange and made up the rules as we went, and there was some “stealing” of some highly sought after gifts. Then it was on to target shooting, both stationary and moving. The old grinch got nailed this year and was wounded in a few unusual locations like right on the nose, the eye and the tip of his hat. Even the moving target grinch was hit twice! It was a fun night of good food and target shooting in arctic weather conditions.

Any kids out there ages 13-16 interested in kyudo? Kyudo Kai of Florin will be having a kids kyudo summer camp, June 6-July 18, 2025 every Friday from 5-6:30 pm at the Buddhist Church of Florin gymnasium. This camp will introduce kyudo to the next generation of kyudo practioners. You’ll learn the history of kyudo, the 8 stages of shooting (Hassetsu) and safety in the dojo. Kids are free, if a parent/adult participates the cost is $30. Sign up by contacting Paula at [email protected] or call 808-489-1116. Deadline for sign up is May23, 2025.

Joya no Kane 2025. The New Year started out with a new celebration of shooting 108 arrows. Traditionally a bell is rung 108 times, however KKF adopted the shooting of arrows from HKK. Chilly day but everyone beat the cold and brought in 2025.

It’s not always serious shooting. Although we have fun during normal practice, once a year we have a very informal and just for fun contest shooting at crazy targets like ninjas and Pokemon characters. Winners claimed bragging rights as the best archers for the night with individuals and teams earning some wild trophies.
