The Board and Co-Directors of the 2022 Hot Jazz Jubilee are devastated to report that we have been forced to cancel the upcoming festival over Labor Day weekend.

After repeated assurances over the past 2 years that planned renovations at the DoubleTree Hotel would be completed by September 2022, it recently became clear that this will NOT be the case. In fact, the hotel does not have a definitive completion date for 3 of the 6 venues we need to stage our event. Additionally, with just weeks to go before the festival, large parts of the hotel remain in a state of complete demolition, including the restaurant. This is a huge blow to our volunteer festival staff, who have been working diligently to bring the HJJ back to life after the pandemic.

Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed that the renovations will not be completed in time for the festival. Since learning of this situation, we have been scrambling to find alternative sites, but with only two months to go, all available hotel spaces are either already booked, cannot handle the size of our event, or are cost-prohibitive. The only remaining alternative is to reschedule in 2023.

We fully realize how disappointing this is to all of you who purchased tickets, donated money and sponsored bands. After the long hiatus caused by the pandemic, we were all of us looking forward to immersing ourselves in live jazz again. No one is more disappointed by this gut-wrenching news than we are. Our mission is to present the best possible jazz festival experience to attendees in a safe and comfortable environment. The DoubleTree renovations’ lack of progress has made that impossible.

If you wish us to refund your tickets, please send an email to [email protected] and include your name, date of purchase, and amount. Please allow time to process the refund. Alternatively, we would welcome your decision to roll over the tickets to next year, in which case you need do nothing. The information will remain in our system until then.

IMPORTANT! If you booked a room at the DoubleTree or other hotel, please contact them directly to cancel your reservation, as it will NOT be canceled automatically.

Meet 2022 Hot Jazz Jubilee performer, Yve Evans & Company!

Yve has performed all around the world…Japan, Canada, Spain and Italy are a few places that come to mind. Evans has played with some of the greats in jazz and cut five CD’s. (All done live and in only one take the way jazz was meant to be.) The title of her latest CD sums up her style “3 Degrees Celsius – not frozen, just very cool”.

Evans was educated in the United States, Japan and Europe. Evans was mentored by internationally renowned choral conductor Jester Harriston and attended the University of Califorina, Irvine, School of Fine Arts where she studied Opera and Theater.

Evans’ band (she calls it her Company) is comprised of some of the industry’s most accomplished musicians. Each performance shows a dedication to the tradition and understanding of Jazz and it’s timeless repertoire. The goal is sharing the sheer joy and freedom that her music brings, or at the very least taking the audience on a musical roller coaster ride with Yve at the helm.

Evans the singer, cites some of some of the finest vocalist in the world as her main influences – Sarah Vaughn, Ernie Andrews, Joe Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, June Christie, Della Reese, Bobby Darin and Rosemary Clooney.

Evans the pianist, has leaned over the shoulders of, swapped chord changes with and stolen licks from Dorothy Donegan, Bill Evans, Erroll Garner, George Gafney, Carmen McCrae and Shirley Horn.

Yve takes her stage show lead from two of the greatest female performers that ever walked onto a stage….Pearl Bailey and Della Reese.

Much like Ray Charles, Yve loves all music. She is just as happy recording jazz, blues, gospel, music for children or maybe even country-western-jazz-blues. We will just wait and see about that one.

Meet 2022 Hot Jazz Jubilee performer, Bob Schulz’ Frisco Jazz Band!

Bay Area coronetist Bob Schulz hails from Wonewoc, WI, where he was a band director for 17 years before joining the legendary Turk Murphy Jazz Band of San Francisco in 1979. His eight years with Turk included 300 taped radio shows, many LPs, tours of US and Europe and the famous Carnegie Hall tribute to Turk. Bob still leads the Turk Murphy band for special engagements. He is the foremost exponent of the Bob Scobey trumpet style and is an outstanding vocalist in the tradition of Clancy Hayes. Bob was chosen to play the part of Bob Scobey with the Scobey Reunion Band engagement at the 1988 Los Angeles Classic Jazz Festival and in 1989 at the Big Horn Jazz Festival in Chicago. He has more than 30 LPs to his credit.

Bob’s cornet style shows influences of Bob Scobey, Louis Armstrong, Wild Bill Davison, Bobby Hackett, Bunny Berigan and Muggsy Spanier. His vocals reflect the legacy of the great Clancy Hayes, whose warm baritone voice told a story with every song.

Bob’s Frisco Jazz Band embodies the West Coast Revival influence on early New Orleans jazz.
