Build Union Power! Don’t Diminish Union Power!

There will be some who will encourage you to drop your union membership or discourage you from being a union member. Don’t listen to them. Question why they would want you to do something that hurts you and your coworkers!

Opting out of SEIU Local 1000 does not cancel the negotiated contract. You will still receive contractual wages and benefits—but you give up your direct vote and voice inside the union negotiating them.

As a non-member, you lose:
❌ Your vote on contract ratification;
❌ Your vote on strike authorization;
❌ Your vote in union elections;
❌ Full union representation in disciplinary, rejection-on-probation, merit and AWOL appeals; and
❌ Access to member-only benefits.

Non-members receive limited assistance with contract-related grievances and arbitration.
