HMLCAN Youth Empowerment

HMLCAN Youth Empowerment Come join YouthEmpowerment at one of our meetings to meet friendly and goal-oriented individuals! This program is open to high school and college students.

Funded by The California Endowment, the YouthEmpowerment program was developed under Hmong, Mien, Lao Community Action Network (HMLCAN). HMLCAN works with community partners including Hmong Women's Heritage Association, Iu-Mien Community Services (formerly United Iu-Mien Community), and Sacramento City College's Hmong Opportunity Program for Education (HOPE). The network aims to identify and advocate for the Hmong, Mien, and Lao community in the areas of education, health and safety.

OCA Sacramento is now accepting applications for our annual summer youth Speak & Lead Program, a 6-week public speaking, communication and leadership program created for high school students in the greater Sacramento region to learn how to organize speeches, build public speaking confidence, and develop communication and leadership skills through an interactive class with educational lectures, stimulating exercises, fun activities, and unique guest speakers.

Join us this summer starting June 25th for 6 3-hour sessions to gain a transferable skill and make life-long friends.

The Speak & Lead program is a 6-week (meeting once per week on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) public speaking and speech organization class. This program aims to strengthen the oral communication skills of Asian Pacific Islander high school students with the goal of building each students' leadership and advocacy potential.
