Friendship Park Breakfast Program

Friendship Park Breakfast Program Loaves & Fishes is piloting a community based and funded breakfast program in Friendship Park. It's all quite simple really. Interested in joining this movement?

With vision, passion and a commitment to feeding for those in need. Currently, there are no formalized and consistent breakfast options available for the homeless and Loaves & Fishes does not have the funds or resources to support one. In October of 2015, LeRoy Chatfield, the Retired Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes,LeRoy Chatfield, championed 20 neighbors to pilot the first breakfast hosted

in Loaves & Fishes' Friendship Park. Since then, through word of mouth and social media, numerous breakfast groups have been formed and thousands of meals served to the poorest of poor in our community. The original pilot group split into two groups and other groups have forked off from the original group to create their own. This program is truly a grass-root effort. There is no one backing this program other than those wanting to feed the hungry and those unwilling for someone else to do it. We all see the need around Sacramento. The program gets no support from Loaves & Fishes or from their donor base. Each breakfast cost approximately $450 although the price fluctuates depending on the group serving. Again, this program is completely community based and funded to serve the homeless in Sacramento a healthy and hearty breakfast at Loaves & Fishes' Friendship Park. Community based can be defined in many ways but for the most part, each breakfast group buys, preps, and serves the breakfasts. It costs each group member roughly $35 to $45 per breakfast. Some groups serve once a month, some every other and some periodically. Our ultimate goal is to serve a healthy and hearty breakfast five days a week. Snag neighbors, family members, friends, work colleagues, church members and/or associations, and sponsor a breakfast. To see the need will take your breath away!

It's almost time to start dishing up our biggest meal of the year! The prep work started last week, and rolls right into the wee hours of the morning tomorrow when community volunteers and the dedicated Dining Room team show up to roast turkeys with all the fixings!

This meal is made possible by our incredible community of supporters who've donated every bit of what will fill bellies tomorrow. We can't wait for the big day, and are full of gratitude that another year of festivities is just hours away.

If you didn't get your donations in to us yet, we will continue to accept what you have which will go toward meals later this week. Thanksgiving leftovers are the best leftovers!
