We had a blast bringing our Summer Kids Farmers Markets to Bell Avenue and Robla elementary schools! 🥕🫐🥒

Students cheerfully went home with cucumbers, blueberries, celery, onions, carrots, and much more.

Because of our community’s support, we provided 4,186 pounds of fruits and vegetables to 161 students!

Our Kids Farmers Markets are the culmination of our 10-week afterschool program. We plan these events before school breaks to ensure that kids experiencing food and nutrition insecurity go home with fresh fruits and vegetables, helping to support their health and well-being while school is out of session.

Thank you Dignity Health Sacramento, ’s Expanded Learning staff, volunteers, and everyone who participated and helped make these markets possible! 🙌

🥦For the past five years, Food Literacy Center has been inspiring kids to eat their vegetables from our headquarters located in Upper Land Park!

🍎During that time, we’ve provided daytime cooking and gardening classes for students from Leataata Floyd Elementary School, hosted field trips serving students from three school districts, and welcomed the community for events that support our free programs for kids.

☀️Our urban farm also serves as a gathering space where we host family-friendly events and activities for neighbors like you.

🌈Lettuce inspire kids to eat their vegetables together! Sign up for Broccoli Beet, our monthly newsletter, to be the first to know about our programs in action and upcoming events.

Summer break can be one of the hardest times for kids to access fresh fruits and vegetables.

💪 That’s why we continue to show up for students and families all summer long with hands-on cooking, nutrition education, and fresh produce.

This summer, we have:

🍎 Served 438 students across six elementary schools in Twin Rivers Unified School District through hands-on cooking and nutrition classes.

🌱 Hosted 11 field trips at our center, bringing SCUSD students to our farm to learn, taste, and explore.

📚 Participated in Lunch at the Library, where kids learned the fundamentals of our food system and took home our Food Adventure Cookbook and seasonal produce.

🥬 Brought our Kids Farmers Market to First Fridays in Oak Park, where kids selected their favorite fresh fruits and vegetables.

Join us in bringing hands-on food education and fresh produce to more students! Visit the link in our bio to learn how you can get involved and support our work.
