🍎At Woodbine Elementary, students in the afterschool program worked on a project to research cooking practices around the world.

🥗Many students based their projects on Food Literacy Center recipes! Our healthy, veggie-filled recipes stick with kids. They love to make and share the recipes they learn in food literacy class with others. They’re not just Food Adventurers - they’re Veggie Advocates!

🎒The school year is wrapping up, but the fennel fun won’t stop! We need some a-maize-ing volunteers for upcoming summer events and programs.

🍓Kids Farmers Markets: Help kids “shop” for their favorite fruits and veggies at our Kids Farmers Markets, where they exchange “Food Literacy Bucks” for fresh produce.

🌳First Fridays Oak Park: Join us in Oak Park every first Friday from June through August to connect with the community and support family-friendly activities.

👩🏽‍🍳Summer School Cooking and Nutrition Classes: We’re continuing our cooking and nutrition classes over the summer at schools in Twin Rivers and Robla School Districts. Help kids learn to chop, grate, stir, and cook!

☀️Summer Field Trips: Join us at Food Literacy Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer as we host field trips for kids across the region. Help kids learn to cook in our state-of-the-art cooking classroom!

🪴“When I’m here, I feel calm.” A Leataata Floyd student told us this while exploring our farm for a garden class assignment.

🔍In addition to cooking and nutrition classes, every student at Leataata Floyd elementary school participates in garden classes, where they learn science, identify parts of the plant, and get exposed to fruits and vegetables from seed to harvest.

✅Like healthy eating, the exposure kids have to nature at a young age matters. Children who spend time in nature benefit from improved brain function—mental health, focus, creativity, academic performance, reduction of anxiety, and more. ☀️By inviting students to learn, explore, and play in nature, we set them up for success both in and out of the classroom.

Our cooking and nutrition classes teach students healthy habits—for both their bodies and their minds! By showing up with joy every day, we create a safe environment for students to explore unfamiliar foods and become Food Adventurers. 💪We model resilience and bravery, helping kids become more confident in their daily lives. Teachers have even told us that they get higher attendance on days when Food Literacy Center is there!

🥦Thank you for showing up for our students on Big Day of Giving!

✅Through your generous donations last week, you helped us raise $36,150.65 to expand our volunteer program and keep pace with our school expansion, allowing us to maintain a 1:10 adult to student ratio in the classroom.

Your gifts speak to the priorities of our community. Thank you for putting our kids’ health at the top of your list.

📣We’re just $13,947 away from reaching our Big Day of Giving goal. We need your help!

🥦Your donation helps us reach more students with more volunteers. For every new school we reach, we need 1-2 additional volunteers. Trained volunteers assist our instructors, allowing us to maintain the hands-on nature of our program, which is key to its success.

Help us reach more kids in more schools with more volunteer power. Make your gift today!🔗⬆️
