California’s open meeting law, “The Brown Act” has been updated. Changes impacting local advisory boards / commissions take effect January 1, 2026.

Changes include:
➢ Remote Attendance without posting physical address: All advisory board/commission members may attend meetings by teleconference without posting a physical address if certain requirements are met. (Must be approved by Governing Body (usually Board of Supervisors) every 6 months and by the board/commission. There must be a physical location open to the public, with at least one staff member present.)
➢ Additional remote attendance allowances are available if the item above is not enacted.
➢ Provide copy of the Brown Act: All board/commission members should receive a copy of the Brown Act.
